I've seen Faidi at work here in So Cal. He is a manipulator. He uses the DL unlike anyone I've seen. With that he has used the 7 day DL many times to bring up fresh pitchers and give the SP a rest, for example.
I think he is doing that right now with OF Mac Williamson. he got hit with a pitch and down to the DL he goes. And then he gets time to play some minor league games in a rehab assignment. Faidi now has bought some time to determine the Rule 5 pickups.
This starting roster of 13 pitchers wont last, but at the start of the season it offers some advantages to sneak out a few possible wins. Actually Bochy likes this idea from times past.
In the not too distant future look for some of these "excess guys" to be traded or DFAed once the starting roisters of other teams is decided and maybe successful waivers is more likely.

Good insights, Gary.
Regarding the 13 pitchers, remember how we discussed previously how if a team has optionable relievers, it can "carry" 13 pitchers in 12 spots by sending pitchers up and down from and to the minors? As you mentioned, the injury list as well can be used in that regard. They reduced the disabled list to 10 days in 2018, but guys like Farhan were so adept in using the lower limit that they renamed it the injured list and went back to the 15 days.

I'm already depressed, Gary.
The 3 games that I saw versus the A's were pathetic, both offensively, and also on the mound.
I did like what I saw from Pomeranz and Anderson...but not much else.
Our offense was on vacation.
This was more of the same crap I saw last year.
Consistently off balance, consistently fooled by pitches, consistently either taking, or swinging through hittable pitches.
The A's, for the most part, didn't swing through or miss many hittable pitches.
We were beyond terrible. We were disgustingly awful.
And I expect more of the same during the year, I don't care how confident Holland or Belt are.

Personally, I can't wait for the season to begin. Will the Giants likely be a losing team? Sure. But that doesn't mean the season can't be exciting. After all, it's Giants baseball!
I'm hoping that if the season goes poorly, we'll compensate by following the minor league more closely. There's were the future lies.

One of the beauties of playing fantasy baseball is you always have a good team. My team this year includes NL MVP candidates Ronald Acuna and Bryce Harper. It very likely has the AL Rookie of the Year in either Vladimir Guerrero or Eloy Jimenez. Two possible AL stolen base leaders in Whit Merrifield and Jonathan Villar. The possible AL home run leader in Nelson Cruz. The possible NL batting leaers in Daniel Murphy.
And I'd be even better if Mark hadn't kept stealing players I was targeting! He's got Max Scherzer, Freddie Freeman, Juan Soto, Kris Davis, and the likely NL Rookie of the Year Juan Soto.

Randy, I believe you may have been depressed the moment you were born.

If by that you mean my twin sister stepped on me to make it out of the womb first, you may be right.

Hey, pretty cool that you're a twin, Randy! Thanks for sharing that. To paraphrase Jack Paar's book, my sister was an only child.

By the way, Flannery just about confirmed that Bochy is being forced out by the stats geeks in charge. Tim said Bochy is one of the last of the old dogs and that his success was in part because he allowed players to show their intangibles that can't be measured by analytics. I have a feeling stats geeks might have forced Flan out too

When I heard Bruce talk about his retirement during an early broadcast, he sounded like he was going out on his own terms. And I think Tim simply tired of the grind and wanted to explore his music career. Good comment though about Bruce's perhaps having success via intangibles. The Giants' chemistry seemed stronger during their winning years than their talent was, so if we are to attribute the success to anything, chemistry might be the best place to look. Bochy would never admit to being forced out. I'm just reading between the lines. He is definitely an old dog doing things the old way. If he feels he cant work with the new analytics driven management, that would surely make him want out

Of course what you say is true about Bruce, Randy. But you've never been very good at reading between the lines, have you?
You began to think about Bruce's retiring at the end of his contract when he had his first heart issue, didn't you? Or did you not think of it until the second time?

So you guys know more about Farhan than his peers in the industry? I guess you follow baseball closer than I. I had barely heard of him.

I think you could cherry pick nice things said about anyone, doesn't mean that person isn't over their head in a general manager position. Theres a place for analytics in baseball, I'm just not sure that place is in a position of dictating an entire 40 man roster. The Giants haven't gotten better or younger, they haven't been able to jettison any of their dead weight contracts. Overall, thus far, Fargeek has failed at his job.

to be honest, seeing the moves, especially this last month, with the dumpster dives and then the quick releasing of those same players, it's easy to conclude this guy has no clue what he's doing.

By the way, I don't mean the game has left you totally behind, Boagie, but with regard to the qualifications for a GM, I think it has.

By the way, one might think that having never played beyond high school, Farhan wouldn't be liked by the players, but it appears that he is. I haven't seen anything to indicate anyone in the game dislikes him. In fact, quite the opposite.
Really, aside from our board, I haven't seen much of anything bad about him. Not that that type of performance is particularly unusual for our board.
