Cameron Maybin has been released. As Mark predicted a week or so ago, look for a deal for an outfielder.

We've talked about the frequency of injuries. Certainly they've hit the Giants and many other teams hard in recent years.
The A's have just begun their season, and yet they've already lost pitching flash Jesus Luzardo for at least a month and Matt Olson for an indeterminate amount of time to a broken hamate bone. In 2015, Giancarlo Stanton missed over half a season with a broken hamate bone, although more recently Yuli Gurriel missed just over six weeks with the injury.
The point is that while the Giants' injuries have seemed insurmountable the past couple of years, many of the top teams in baseball have overcome similar or even worse injuries to make the postseason and sometimes excell during it.

Couldn't happen soon enough for me.
I was not pleased when they signed him, but realized it was worth a shot.
I've just never, ever been impressed with his offense.

It would be intriguing to know what went wrong with Maybin's career. He was once a top 10 prospect. He and Andrew Miller were the backbone of the Dontrelle Willis trade (also known as the Miguel Cabrera trade). Wish we knew what happened there.
Miller was also a top prospect (and #6 overall draft pick ahead of Clayton Kershaw, Tim Lincecum and Max Scherzer) who never made it as a starter, but did go on to become a top reliever.

I didn't mind when they signed him, I thought it was a low risk good addition. I minded when he chose to stay out until 2am drinking when he should have been focused on saving his career. He has nobody to blame but himself.

Very true, boagie, very true.
I have ZERO empathy, nor sympathy for guys with ML skills, who have alcohol or drug problems.
None what-so-ever.
