Merry Christmas everbody!
The Giants have received some stocking stuffers, but it appears their biggest presents are still to come.

You are a LOT more optimistic than I am, Roger.
I'm pretty sure the Giant's stocking will be stuffed with coal

First, let's look at the context. The Giants might be in the worst shape of any team in the league. They're kind of caught in that great netherland of the middle.
Might they be able to compete? Possibly. But most things would have to go right. The past two and a half seasons they've been in the bottom 10% of MLB. They need outfield power bats, but no power bats want to play in AT&T Park. They need to trade for outfielders, but their trading chips have high contracts or are lame ducks.
They need to get younger, but their farm system is among the worst in the majors/minors.
Not that things are impossible. They have some good players, and it's possible they'll all have good seasons and surprise us. But it surely appears they need to rebuild. And it surely appears that ownership wants to hang in there for at least one more year.
So it's a juggling act. The good news is that they can't fall very much. The bad news is that they don't have much to fall.
I'm really excited though to see what happens. If it goes well, great. If it goes badly, maybe ownership will finally give the go-ahead to rebuild. Pitchers and catchers report in about seven weeks.

Rog -- But we don't know what the Giants REALLY got. We know names, but we don't really understand the players. And unlike Santa Claus, Farhan doesn't have a December 25th deadline.
If we feel like the Giants got nothing but coal, that's probably because we were guilty of premature speculation.

Yeah, Roger, we do.
Admittedly there is still time before the season begins...but he continues to wait and pretty soon, if not already, the pickins' will be slimmer than the already are.
As Randy said; he needed to act and act quickly.
He didn't.
Now it appears we'll be shopping at the Dollar Store or K-Mart in lieu of even Pennys or Macys.

I don't ever remember being excited about a Christmas present labeled "this is junk now but in a few years it MIGHT be worth something...or it might still be junk."

As usual, Randy, you avoid the question when you have no answers.
And apparently you don't even recognize the difference between "This is junk now" and "This is a prospect now."
