The Giants portion of another MLB Trade Rumors chat:
Q: How is Farhan Zaidi possibly going to right the Giants’ ship? Suggestions?
A: With patience. That's probably a 2-4 year plan and I'm assuming that the Giants ownership is on board with that. Or they at least told Zaidi that.
Q: Would a trade of Will Smith for Domingo Santana be fair for both teams?
A: If SF trades their best reliever, it's probably safe to say they're taking a step back. Until they trade MadBum, I wouldn't say that for sure. But with that said, not sure 3 years of Santana would be a good fit. Maybe. I'm guessing Zaidi would want prospects if he's going to rebuild.

No question that rebuilding is not an over night thing and it cannot and will not be accomplished over night.
We all know Farhan is NOT going to gut the team and start from scratch.
He has all but said he still hopes to win WHILE rebuilding... and I'm fine with that.
But, get your fanny in gear!

Rog -- Is it more important that Farhan get his fanny in gear or that his fanny is effective when he does get it moving? The journey of a thousand miles begins with just one step. It would be a shame to take that step in the wrong direction.

When Zaidi starts following through on all the rhetoric about how smart he is, how good he is, THEN I'll back off.
Not until then.

For starters, Boly, I don't think the rhetoric has come from Farhan's mouth.
What are the moves he's missed out on that you would have made? It's really easy to say that he hasn't made significant moves (which as far as we know as of now, he hasn't), but unless we can identify what he has missed out on, it's kind of hard to criticize him, isn't it?
We might say, for instance, that signing Michael Brantley would have taken up about only half the money the Giants have available for new acquisitions this year, and given that he is something of a four or five tool player, Farhan should have signed him, and we would have paid up to 2/$40 as opposed to the 2/$32 he received. We would then have to ask ourselves how his signing would fit with what could be done with the remaining money and whether given AT&T Park he would have signed with the Giants for 2/$40, but my guess is that would have been high enough that he would have done so.
But if we can't point out what Farhan has missed out on, or point to a deal he has made where he gave up way too much in salary and/or players, how can we criticize him in a reasonable manner?
In other words, just where has he struck out?
