You recently told us that you were upset with the Nunez trade not because of the return the Giants got, but because you liked Eduardo as a player, Randy.
What did you mean then when you wrote a week or two after the trade: "Naturally when I said "keep him" I assumed you would understand that meant re-signing him. If you decide not to keep him and get BUPKIS in return, then it was a pretty stupid move to trade for him to begin with
."?
I capitalized the word "BUPKIS," but what precisely did you mean when you said that the Giants got bupkis in return? Bupkis is defined as "nothing at all." Did you mean that the Giants got nothing at all for Eduardo? I guess there were more reasons as to why you didn't like that trade than just that you liked Nunez as a player. Eduardo is an exciting player, and I liked him quite a bit while he was here. That said, he's not a particularly GOOD player.
It is said that the truth will set you free, Randy, but in your case I'm not sure that is true.
Boly posted not that the Giants got bupkis for Eduardo, but that they gave up a lot more to get him than they received when he left. It will be years before we know whether that is true or not, but right now I would eagerly trade Adalberto Mejia for Sean Anderson and Gregory Santos. Anderson and Santos seem to have more potential, and they've certainly been much healthier than the injury-plagued Mejia.
And let's not forget that the Giants got a year of Nunez's services thrown in. The deal became essentially, Mejia for Anderson, Santos and a year of Eduardo's services.
I think it is fair for us to criticize the Bobby Evans era. But I don't think he should be criticized for his Eduardo Nunez transactions. The bad trade I would put at the top of my own list is the Evan Longoria deal, which the Giants are stuck with for at least the next four seasons.
