AT the top of all these threads, there are some saved threats on various topics. I was wondering how things looked different last year compared to this, do I dialed up the thread for a year ago that asked, "Are the Giants worth improving?" Here are some of the things brought up a year ago:
Q: There is a significant difference of opinion as to whether the Giants are good enough to be worth improving. If they're not going to make the playoffs anyway, it doesn't really matter if they miss them by two games or by 20.
The problem the Giants face is that they need close to a 25-game improvement over last season. That's about a 40% improvement, and that's tough to pull off. If the Giants retool rather than rebuild, they run the risk of crippling themselves salary-wise in later years.
A: You're not looking past the obvious numbers
.
You see the 25 games, I SEE the down years and the injuries which made things look worse than they should have been; a TON of down performances that NO ONE could have predicted.
Rog -- I'm not sure the situation has changed that much in terms of the degree of improvement needed. If anything, it was perhaps even worse a year ago because the Giants needed to improve by 25 games. Now they need to improve by "only" 16 games or so. What they did do last winter than hurts now is that they did indeed further cripple themselves salary-wise in later years.
