Listened to a podcast yesterday; an interview with Andrew Baggerly.
Seems the question was asked of Larry Baer, "what if the new GM came in and wanted to re do the dimensions of the ball park?"
Supposedly Baer said that would not be a problem.
Personally, I'd like to see "some," but not much, restructuring.
I'd leave Triples Alley just like it is, but I'd move in the LF fences some, especially in LCF.

Intriguing idea. One thing about it though is that AT&T is already much fairer to right-handed power hitters than to lefties. The change you are suggesting would further accentuate it.

It would, yes.
But if they want hitters to WANT to come to AT&T they'd better do something!

So what is truly important here?
Baer has said he would be open to change. With a new GM, the Giants will likely have someone who isn't nearly as beholden to 2010, 2012 and 2014 as is the current regime. Someone who might take on Randy as his assistant GM and look to rebuild -- or at the very least look to more significantly emphasize the rebuilding portion of reloading.

IMHO, a rebuild is #1
Re configuring the park in some way would be #2

A yellow line could be put up in right field so high liners would have a better chance of being home runs. The Bermuda Triangle could be fenced in in the deeper parts of the triangle.
Those would each make the park more fair -- but it would also take away from some of the offensive beauty the park provides. IMO it is far from an easy fix.
And this brings to mind the incredible offensive prowess of Barry Bonds. For Bonds, playing in such an unfair park wasn't all that tough. He simply played over it.

As much as I love Triple's Alley... I'd be okay with changes there

Triples Alley seems like the most likely area to change. The "Bermuda Triangle" could become an area where balls disappear to become home runs.

If we got rid of it, the park would CERTAINLY become more attractive to hitters.
How many shots have we seen Brandon Belt and others hit to that part of the park... only to become long, fly outs.
I would NOT like to see the place become a band box.
There has to be an in between mix somewhere.

If the Giants could find that happy medium, they'd have a park to beat the band!

I say make it a band box. The days of Bonds and Kent are done. The way we're going we'll field full TEAMS that wont match Bonds' 73 HR year of 2001.

I say make it a band box.
Rog -- It would certainly make games more exciting, but it would also make something of a mockery of the history of the game. Making it a hitters' park is one thing. Making it a band box is another.
The park could be made fairer by simply placing a line on the wall in right and right-center.

The MLB Network yesterday pointed out that it is important to the Yankees to gain home park advantage over the A's. Based on distance and height, 26 of the 56 Yankee homers to right field wouldn't have been out in the Oakland Coliseum. That's almost half.
Making it even worse, the ball likely doesn't carry as well in Oakland either.
