Ya'll can spin this one any way ya'all would like, but Bill Laskey said it best last week. "This team has no energy."
I say they're giving a 1/2 assed effort.
Panik's at bats last night were BEYOND pathetic, chasing multiple pitches up and out of the strike zone.
I ask the question, (again), that I asked previously; do these clowns even LOOK at video?
Because if they did, they'd KNOW that Anderson pitches up in the zone.
For Heaven's sake, even clueless Chris wasn't chasing that high cheese!
And Panik and many of the clods were.
Nice professional at bats, boys!
And Longoria, missing Hader's fastball, RIGHT DOWN THE HEAT OF THE STRIKE ZONE.
Oh.
Wait.
He was looking off speed.
Yeah. that's the ticket.

Not to make excuses but it's been a while since the Giants have played a game with any meaning to it...and now half their roster is AAA players. I say keep playing half assed...it will improve our draft position.

No question Hader has great, over powering stuff, Randy.
But a fastball... right down the middle?
I've been harping on this same point for MONTHS now!
We can't hit pitches right down the middle.
We can't.
Doesn't matter who throws them.

ok but what difference is it going to make now? We might as well accept the bad offense and embrace the losses that will help our draft position.

These clowns are playing for next year, Randy, and I want to see them making some effort to improve.
From Slator, I've seen very little effort to get better.
Still taking too many pitches, not to mention ALL THE TIMES he takes strike 3 called.
We're all counting on the kids and he's one of them.

Ok...so let's say that he makes strides now but come ST, he looks dreadful...what he does this month becomes pretty much irrelevant doesn't it? Same thing if he continues to look bad now but tears it up next spring, right? I couldn't care less what he is doing now...it's how he looks next spring that really matters.

I see both your points, although since we want players to continue to improve, I agree a bit more with Boly. I'm pretty sure Boly believes that it is less likely that a player will hit well next spring if he regresses now.

These guys are, in a sense, auditioning for next year.
Can they make drastic changes in season?
Not likely.
But they can make adjustments... something Slater is not doing.
I claim he's regressing BECAUSE he's taking more strike three calls, AND, he's taking more and more pitches right down the freaking middle of the plate.

I disagree that they are auditioning now. Spring will be their audition, regardless of what they do now. They also have fall and winter ball to improve if they choose it

Well, you're also disagreeing with Kuip, Kruk, and Bochy who've said this is an audition

Are they also saying that everybody that "fails" this month are not invited to Spring Training?

Obviously they're paying attention to the kids now, but I think Randy is correct. What happens in the fall and winter leagues, and in spring training tends to be more impactful to where the players end up starting the next season.

Just telling you what they said; Everyone is playing for a roster spot. I'm assuming they mean the 40 man roster

They are trying to upsell it so people still watch their broadcasts the rest of the year

Normally, I'd go along with that, Randy.
But a couple of weeks back they were talking about how guys like Kelby, D'arnaud, among others, were fighting for places on the 40 man.
Kelby in particular, looks like he won't be left on.
And d'Arnoud? What a waste of space.
All that movement with his hands for a .200 hitter.
He needs a brand new approach, but of course, he won't make it.

every team has a kelby and/or D'arnaud...fill in players with no options left...they are playing for a spot on any big league roster

Chase was signed as minor league depth for the major league roster. Kelby had a disappointing year and lost his job to Alen Hanson. I really like both players. They've each got character.
But neither is likely to make much difference going forward.
