Both last year's team and this year's team stepped into their own toilets and flushed...
Not what fans nor management expected.
What we expect is a team to come out ready to play in the second half; ready to make some kind of a run.
Not to give themselves a swirlee, and then flush.
So what's the comonality?
The entire team, of course, but in particular, the core players; the players EVERYONE is counting on.
Crawford, Panik, Posey, Pence, Belt.
I'll give Posey a pass because he's hurt, but not the rest.
No way.
Add to this year's group, Longo and McCutchen, and, until his last 3 starts, Stratton.
For whatever the reason, they just lose their focus when on vacation, and can't get it back.
Consider the players who left for personal and injury reasons:
Longo, Stratton, Belt, Panik.
None of them came back ready to play and perform.
Oh, you could argue Longo, but not really.
His performance is pretty much exactly what it was before he got hurt.
This team simply CANNOT handle the time off.
For 2 consecutive years, they've proven that.
My conclusion?
Once again, Randy's right; time to do what they won't do; refuse to do; clean house.

You could be right, Rog.
In the last 3 months of 2016 we went 11-13 11-16 13-15
Not a very good second half record but certainly NOT the toilet-flushed enema they've given all of us these last 2 seasons.

July's record that season is inflated by how well the Giants played before the All-Star game. AFTER the game, the Giants went just 30-42, including losing 11 of their first 13 coming out of the break. They got to 30-42 only by winning their final four games of the season. Essentially, the Giants came out of the break 2-11 and 26-42.
I remember this, Boly, because you brought it up at the time. You were extremely impressed with the Giants BEFORE the break, but brought up for the first time I can remember how they lost focus over the break. That second half, by the way, is why we say the Giants were perhaps the worst team not only in 2017, but over the past season and a HALF prior to this season.
This season hasn't been a TOTAL loss. The Giants are on pace to finish 79-83, which would represent an 11 game improvement from last season. The Giants improved a LOT; they simply didn't improve ENOUGH. And much of their improvement was predictable.
