Nice article by Jeff Passan at Yahoo Sports. (He's the guy who wrote the recommended book "The Arm".) He talks about baseball's worries over its attendance being way down this April. Part of the reason is the weather, of course, but there is some concern there is more to it.
The article has some suggestions. Double headers to shorten the season probably make the most sense -- but both the owners and players are again the idea. Another idea is to open the season in domed stadia and warm weather sites. There are difficulties including catching home games up and delayed home openers, but I like that plan.
Here is something that was mentioned as part of the article that caught my eye. Baseball is pushing $10 billion in revenue, yet the percentage it pays the players is shrinking. My personal thought is that they should better compensate minor leaguers, many of whom barely survive. I don't know how those with families get by.
But the point is that while some of us scream at how much the players are making, they are making less this season than last, and they are making a smaller percentage of baseball's revenue. In other words, we're tilting at windmills.
