One team had 57 HRs in spring training, and had the most dominant pitcher in the sport in first game of the season starts....
The Other had a dearth of HRs and a #4 starter starting....
The Giants got the only HR/Run and the shutout...
Good start. That's why we play the games.....

My bad...you are right Gary and I was wrong. It's obvious that despite all evidence to the contrary, the Giants MUST be the best team ever assembled and should have no trouble going 162-0 in the regular season and 11-0 in the postseason, even if Bum and Samardzija do not play a single game.

I love how Randy criticizes anyone who talks about spring training performances, saying that it doesn't matter, but then decides the fate of the Giants before spring training ends. It's downright comical.

I said from day one of ST that the only thing that matters is health. I didn't say one word about the results of ST EXCEPT about the injuries when they came late in ST. I thought I was very clear and consistent on that point.

My bad? You were right, Gary, and I was wrong?
What kind of sarcastic garbage is that?
Gary said the Giants won the first game of the season despite facing long odds. He went on to say they are off to a good start. Everything he said was true, and he came about as close to saying the Giants were going to win 162 games as you did to saying in 2014 that the Giants were dead.
Oh, wait.
Why such an attitude, Randy?

Off to a good start? The offense was absolutely pathetic...not just against Kershaw in the shadows One good swing the whole game. Belt of course strikes out with an insurance run at 3rd with 1 out. I absolutely cannot understand the inability to put a ball in play. Just play freakin pepper! The pitching was good...although the shadows really aided Blach. Jon Smoltz may have turned Strickland into a solid late game pitcher. That was the one positive thing I noticed. Talk to me in mid May and we'll see if it truly is a "good start." We'll have played the Dodgers 10 times by then...the over/under of Giants wins in those ten games is still 4, IMO.

Randy I am an optimist. Its what I do. I also have spent over 5 decades following the Giants and that amount playing ball (hardball of softball). I'm not a novice. I know what lies ahead. I also know that for one day the Giants showed a level of play that earned them a tough win over a tough opponent. I live in SoCal. My wife is as avid a Dodger fan as I am a giants fan. I see a ton of Dodgers games. They have problems. Part of it showed up last night with a lefthander. Part of it showed in HR swingers not playing small ball when they needed to. For whatever reason (mostly not grooving the ball) Blach has the Dodger whammy. He is now 2-1 in 3 games versus Kershaw, and in 8 games versus the Dodgers has a sub 2 ERA now. Good for him. The team pitched well and fielded well, a good sign. They still aren't tearing the ball apart with their hitting. 3 more games will better define them.

Randy- Off to a good start? The offense was absolutely pathetic...
Boagie- The offense wasn't the concern, the pitching staff was. For one game, against the team that many pick to run away with the division, it looked good. That's a good reason for Gary and anyone else to have optimism without being attacked by you. He didn't say you were wrong, he just said he was happy the Giants won a game in which they were considered the unlikely victors.

Blach, IMO, benefitted yesterday from the shadows. In his other starts vs the Dodgers, he was much sharper. In this one his location wasn't as good. He got away with some bad location pitches. Maybe he's in the Dodgers' heads. I don't know. Yes the Dodgers have some troubles but they have a roster that can absorb adversity better than we can.

Boagie- For one game at least, the Giants proved they could absorb some adversity.
The most intriguing part wasn't so much Blach's start as was the bullpens ability to hold a 1-0 lead through 4 innings.
Remember opening day last season? Numbnuts' blown save set the tone for which they never recovered, maybe the tone set yesterday will have the reverse affect.

With the Giants' win last night, I would put the over/under on their wins in the first 10 games with the Dodgers at 4.5.
Let's enjoy the good start. The tenor is likely to change soon, and the question may be whether the Giants can recover. But for now let's simply enjoy the Giants leading the entire National League, even if they have share the honor with others.
Are the Giants standing in the shadows of love?

Gary, you made a great point; LA DOES have holes. And pretty big holes at that.
Hernandez hitting 5th?
Not what I would have done.
With Turner in the line up, they are very formidable.
Without him?
Good, for sure, but not great.

Rog -- Yeah, let's blame the season on a guy whose arm had problems that led to surgery. That seems fair.
Boagie- I didn't blame the whole season on him, I blame the bullpen issues on someone who was brought in and paid handsomely to do something he ended up failing at. And THAT, my friend, is very fair.
