No need to Panik about the top of the order

Compliments of the Mercury News, here is why Bruce Bochy likes Joe Panik and Brandon Belt at the top of the lineup:


“They’re two guys that give you quality ABs, they work the count and find ways to get on base and that’s what you want,” Bochy said. “They’re table-setters in front of your 3-4-5 guys and right now, against righties, I like the way it sets up there.”

I doubt this will remain the 1 and 2 to end the season because there is ZERO speed here. The optimal 1-2 would be Jackson against lefties and Blanco or Duggar against righties. I think Bochy's physical ailment is turning his mind soft

Rog -- Philosophies are changing, and usually for the better. I can't remember who it was that I saw hitting second the other day, but I know it surprised me a lot.

Here's something to consider. The better hitting is, especially with regard to power, the less important speed on the bases becomes.

I think sometimes we see the game as static when it's actually dynamic.

Rog -- I noticed that Bruce said he was going with this AGAINST RIGHT-HANDERS. I think it will likely be Jackson followed by Panik against southpaws. Might even go with something like Jackson, McCutchen, Longoria and Posey. Plus, Bruce likes to juggle his lineups and will likely use 50 of them or so during the season.
