The Mercury News came out with an article on new Giants pitching coach Curt Young a couple of days ago. It began "Every spring, Curt Young is faced with a familiar challenge. Turn prospects into professionals, and turn throwers into thinkers." I'm not sure the rest of the article keeps up with the lead, but here is the link to an article that sheds at least a little light on the pitching coach who will remain forever Young: www.mercurynews.com/2018/02/18/why-a-skill-curt-young-developed-with-the-as-is-critical-for-the-giants/

I figured a look into when Young was fired after spending 13 of the past 14 seasons with the A's might be enlightening. Here are some of the things I found in the article the day after he was fired:
"As Oakland's pitchers arrived at the ballpark Thursday, without their coach and leader Curt Young, and struggled to fathom he had really been fired.
'It's really frustrating. It caught me really off guard. Some of this is on us,' lefty reliever Sean Doolittle said. 'He was super invested in each and every one of his guys.'
Doolittle said pitchers in "disbelief" and "shock" met with Melvin and Emerson."
"(Former Giants)Reliever Santiago Casilla is also in his second stint with the A's, so he knows Young well.
'Very sad. I liked him. A tremendous person. I can't say a negative thing about him,' Casilla said.
The Giants might be replacing one fine pitching coach with another.
