I have to say, I wasn't thrilled about losing Rags because he was brilliant late in games and especially in the playoffs. That said, Curt Young had a way of getting the most out of young arms. Hopefully that helps out guys like Beede and Stratton and Suarez and Blach.

I know nothing about Young as a pitching coach, so this is very pleasing news to my ears.

Young has a good reputations, and the Giants are trying to get more youth on their team.

Young became the A's pitching coach in 2004. Prior to that he was a Minor League pitching instructor in the A's system. It's fair to say he had a big hand in tutoring the A's "big 3" of Mulder, Zito and Hudson. He also helped such pitchers as Rich Harden, Dan Haren, Huston Street, Dallas Braden, Gio Gonzalez, Trevor Cahill and Tyson Ross.
