Let's suppose that the Giants have the $20 million Mark mentioned as being available for this year's salaries. How would we spend it?
Without suggesting the Giants go this way, here are the unsigned free agents from among the top 25 who play positions of need and remain unsigned. Their projected years and salaries are in parentheses. It might be noted that many players have signed for more than the estimated amount.
2. J.D. Martinez, RF (6/$150)
6. Mike Moustakas, 3B (The Giants have said they won't sign a player who causes them to lose a draft pick.)
7. Lorenzo Cain, CF (The Giants have said they won't sign a player who causes them to lose a draft pick.)
14. Jay Bruce, RF (3/$39)
17. Todd Frazier, 3B (3/$33)
23. Carlos Gomez, CF (2/$22)

Other than JD, I'll pass on all of them.
Frazier has too many holes, Bruce does too and neither can hit for average at all.
It's bomb or bust
And Gomez I wouldn't have on my team ever.
He's an attitude waiting to go off

The four major problems I see in signing J.D. are:
. He's a very poor right fielder.
. Like Giancarlo Stanton, he's had a hard time staying healthy.
. Based on where he hit his home runs last season, he would have lost a lot of them to AT&T Park.
. If the Giants were to sign J.D. they would use up all their available money (and then some) without addressing their many other needs.
What are our thoughts on those three areas? (By the way, J.D. hit the HECK out of the ball last season.)
On a related topic, Giancarlo's health problems clinch it for me. I'm glad the Giants weren't able to trade for him. Just too much risk of his not playing enough games or else not playing well in them.
If the trade had worked, it likely would have done so for only three years. If it didn't work, the Giants would almost certainly have been stuck with it for a decade.

I'm not crazy to get him either, Rog.
In OUR park, you MUST be able to play defense.
He cannot.
He's better than Burrell, but that's it.
And until we get a CF who can play LF and CF at the same time...he's a liability to our pitching.
