Matt Moore has been traded to Texas for minor league prospects who haven’t been announced yet. This clears 9 million dollars which I’m sure will be leading to another trade or free agent signing.

Wow! I must admit, I wanted to see this happen... but I didn't see it coming.
So basically we got zilch for Matt Duffy

just a few days ago I saw Evans singing Moore's praises, how he is in AZ early to work through his issues, blah blah blah. I get hyping up someone to increase trade value but wow...I just cannot believe a word out of this guy's mouth anymore.

One side note is that the Giants were said to be trading Moore OR Pence. This appears to mean the Giants are also shopping Hunter to chop salary, which likely means they're making the rare move (for them) of being willing to eat a little salary. This is addition by subtraction for those of you are mathematically challenged. The Giants are selling merchandise from the back of their shelf in order to free up salary in the hopes of finding front shelf talent. This is kind of weird, and I think it's just because the move is different for the Giants, but my reaction was similar to my memory of the Giants signing Barry Bonds (an obvious overreaction for this situation, given the magnitude fo the sitation) and the signing of Reggie Sanders, which I felt meant a World Championship in 2002 and indeed came oh, so close to doing so. The Giants have bought themselves a little wiggle room. More (not Moore) is needed, but this is a nice start. The reality of the situation is of course what Randy said -- the Giants now need another starter. But this may be the priming of the pump the parched Giants need. I thought the trade was delicious. Another positive: The Giants were willing to admit their mistake with Moore, although I think the Rangers got themselves a decent gamble. Yes, this means they didn't get much of anything for Matt Duffy, but let's not forget that Matt has played 21 games for Tampa Bay. If the Giants want him back to play third base, they could likely get him without giving up the franchise. Someone here with vision suggested the Giants trade Matt, and I said they couldn't get much of anything for him. Later we'll see how much they got, and they certainly opened up a spot in the rotation, but the move itself had vision. Those who were wanting the Giants to make a trade should be very glad -- unless of course, that person lack vision. This would appear to be just the first of a series of moves designed to make the team better without giving up the future. yes...next week the Giants will announce they are bringing back Casey McGehee and give him the 9 mil Moore was going to get. the #4 and 5 spots in the rotation is going to be just that...a constant rotation between Stratton, Beede, Blach and 3 other minor leaguers. Can't wait!

I'm sure he IS in Arizona trying to work up from his highly disappointing 5.52 ERA last season. Hopefully he's making good progress, but the Giants needed salary room, and Moore is far from a sure thing. You just don't get it, and I'm afraid you never will! By the way, that "no offense" comment -- that's the Giants. No offense. No longer the 49ers.

I really enjoy reading you, Randy. ANYTHING the Giants do is a step up from your expectations. You've heard of O'Reilly's Law, haven't you? He said Murphy was an optimist. You have the unique talent of making Boly look like an optimist! Check this out, Randy. Like some other organizations, they need a new president. Julian Fernandez's fastball not only hits or approaches triple digits, it has a lot of tail. The movement is fairly consistent and predictable, but it's substantial. Not surprisingly for a guy who throws 100 mph, he has a lot of snap to his high three-quarters delivery. Fernandez cut his walk rate by nearly two-thirds last season, but he's still considered wild, and his movement often rides the ball out of the strike zone, often low and inside to a right-handed hitter. The fastball is strong enough and has enough movement to stifle left-handed hitters a bit. If Fernandez can harness his control, it is believed he could survive as a one-pitch reliever, giving him time to refine his slider. If the slider is developed, Fernandez is considered to have back-of-the bullpen potential. www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=281&v=bugOj1qz5Wg

Fernandez can light up a radar gun, and I heard that Sam Woolf, who was acquired for Moore can hit 100 mph as well. Saying we got nothing for Matt Duffy is silly when Ray fans are sitting around saying they got nothing for Moore! And what if one of the two pitchers we got for Moore turn out to be good? What about both of them? Such pessimism. The glass isn’t only half empty around here but what’s in it is cyanide. Hunter Pence still has that no trade and hasn’t been asked to waive it, so I doubt he’s going elsewhere. I see Span as the next to go, but I think the Giants might have to send a few million along or attach a good prospect to make that one work. My prediction for this off season is Bruce and Hamilton via trade, with the Giants trying to fit in Todd Frazier as well.

Woolf is 27 and has never been in the majors...his ERA was in the mid 5s last year splitting time between AA and AAA. He's a throw in

But Duffy has been injured and HAS a future; when healthy.
I think that very soon they'll start reaping the benefits of that deal.

He's a throw in Rog -- I'm guessing you're not getting your information from the same place Mark is. Having a 100 mph arm makes him more than a throw-in, even if he is injured right now. Somehow you got confused regarding Wolff in 2017. As had been posted here earlier, he posted a 2.93 ERA with 59 strikeouts in 43 innings between AA and AAA. You are right that he's never been in the majors, but he is 26, not 27. If he's a throw-in, the Giants need more of those. My prediction for this off season is Bruce and Hamilton via trade, with the Giants trying to fit in Todd Frazier as well. Rog -- That's a tough shoe horn, but the idea is sound. Of that trio, I like Frazier the most, although he may wind up getting more than was projected. Both Bruce and Hamilton are essentially left-handed hitters, and each has a significant platoon split. Hamilton's may manageable, but that's primarily because he doesn't hit well against EITHER righties or lefties. As mentioned, the Giants didn't fare all that much worse against lefties than righties last season. Part of that was because they were awful against both, and part was because their left-handed hitters are pretty good at handling lefties. In order to fit all three of those players under the cap, the Giants would likely have to shed Span, Pence and another significant piece. That might enable them to get the players you mentioned plus a modest player to replace the big piece. The Giants still have a ton of work to do, but parting ways with Matt Moore, while not a huge savings, was a nice first step to prime the pump.
