I get get Giant Dodger games because they are blacked out in my area if you don't have their idiot package.
Plus we had a 2 hour power outtage, so it was after 8 pm when I was able to see IF they were showing the game on MLB, TV, as scheduled.
But no.
Blacked out.
Periodically I checked with ESPN and they reported that the game was postponed.
So imagine my surprise when I went to the Giant website and discovered we had won!
They lost to our lowly scrubs.
Sheesh.
Go figure.
Plus, Pence had 3 hits!
Can't decide what surprised me more! Our win, or Pence's hits.
Either way, anything that helps sink the LA ship, I'm on board!

Rog -- I would say the two things we can most root for the rest of the season are to get the top draft pick and for Hunter to play so well the rest of the way he can somehow be traded.

Hunter is NOT the same hitter that we've seen in the past.
More movement at the plate, more feet shuffling, and when he swings, he rarely is balanced anymore.
Hasn't been for most of the year.

ANYBODY can be traded...the difference is the value that we can expect in return.
It's interesting that the 2018 opening day roster could include Sandoval, who we decided not to extend, and not Pence who we did extend.

It is true that most players can be traded if their team is willing to take very little and also to subsidize the player's salary. Picking up much of Hunter's salary would somewhat defeat the purpose.
These are new and different times, but the Giants have shown very little willingness to subsidize salary. In fact, there may be an exception, but I don't remember it. Likewise they have for the most part been unwilling to simply release highly paid players, although they did so with Aaron Rowand as his contact was about to expire anyway.
Teams will look at Hunter's loss of health, power and ability to field and be highly concerned. Hunter did have the beginnings of that turnaround we'd been hoping for, going 11 for 21 with a double, triple and homer before hurting his back and missing a few games. Since returning, he's gone only 1 for 8. Even in his hot streak, only 3 of Hunter's 11 hits were for extra bases.
The primary reason to trade Hunter would be to save his high salary. I would be very surprised if any team would be willing to take on his salary without a huge discount and having to provide almost nothing in return.
If the Giants truly want to compete next season, they will need to improve by about 25 games. Rebounds and/or health for many players would accomplish part of that. But my feeling is that in order to be competitive as early as next season, the Giants will need to spend nearly Dodger-type money. With something like $166 already committed to an aging average-at-best roster, it appears to me the Giants have to be willing to spend at least $200 million -- and then do so intelligently.
I can understand the Giants' taking the position of having one of the highest salaries in the majors but not truly blowing the top off when they were able to be a strong team for many years. But they are no longer a strong team. They will not only need to spend big money, they will need to spend BIG money.
The Giants likely aren't as bad as they've looked this season. Not really. But they're still a bad team and have been for a season and a half now.
The gap is simply to large to -- sorry about the word -- span it in one winter. Unless drastic action is taken. IMO.
