I thought that since we were so far out of the race, I'd not get mad again.
Wrong.
When this debacle ended, I was, once again, furious.
I understand we need to see the kids. I get that.
But how many times DO WE have to run Osich out there and watch him walk the house?
Or fall behind in the count early?
And why put Cain INTO a close game?
I don't get it.
I just don't.
The game wasn't out of reach... yet.\
What the heck is wrong with Posey?
9 at bats, and 8 of the CRAPPIEST at bats I've seen from him all year long.
Sheesh!
No balance in his swing what so ever.
None.
He looked fooled on almost every pitch.
Anyone count?
Just how many FAT fast balls in this series DID we foul off or swing through this series?
I think I lost count at around 18.
Early in the count, WHY are we taking fastballs right down the gut?
I don't understand this team.
I just don't.
Makes me wonder how in the world you can win 3 World series in 5 years, and then play like this.
The ONLY guy we have swinging the bat well, outside of the of course, now injured, Crawford, is Parker!
Mr. Swing and miss!
Only he's NOT swinging and missing that much.
Can't hit with runners on.
I watch their at bats and WATCH them squeeze their butt cheeks so hard, like they are trying to keep a frozen pea from falling out.
Doesn't ANYONE know how to hit with RISP?
And management REALLY wants us to believe we can compete next year?
Another really great start by Madison and Stratton, pissed away by this group of rejects.
Just shoot me now before next season even begins, and put me out of my misery.

dk...I think it is time for Bochy to move to the front office...I don't understand putting Cain in when he had their 49 million closer and his twin closer available...and to let Matt take such a beating after all that great service for the Giants...unbelievable....

I was thinking the same thing, Don.
It looked... I mean, seriously LOOKED like he knew they wouldn't score, and ran Cain out there to not waste a pitcher.
Once it got out of hand, no sense in going to get him and burning up another arm.

Don, Why would you put your closer in during the 8th inning in a game you're losing 2-0? If Bochy belongs in an executive office then you belong in a nuthouse. None of it matters, we're 40 games out.

I wouldn't have used Dyson, Boagie, but I WOULD have run Gearrin or someone else out there.
Not Cain.

I understand your point, but still, we're 40 games out. It really doesn't matter. This is basically spring training at this point. Maybe they would consider bringing Cain back as a bullpen piece for next season and they want to test him in those type of situations.

But the goal is to win as many games as we can.
THAT is something that Bochy has continually said.
Cain and Suarez are in long relief roles, not short relief unless there is no other choice.

At this point, I'd rather they lose and get the #1 pick overall, but maybe that's just me.

Well if the reports are correct, Melancon is still having arm issues that may be addressed this off-season with surgery. That could be an indication of why he's not been called on much.

I've heard the same reports, boagie.
Let's see... Bum out for over half the season, our closer, Melancon, if not out, then certainly NOT what we expected when we signed him, for most of the season...3 players hit in the head WHILE hitting causing extended time on the DL...Emotional distress with a family member suddenly dying...Cueto's blister problems...
Now stir in incredibly DOWN season by Moore that NO ONE saw coming, and a reliever in Law that we THOUGHT we could depend upon, suddenly sucking as much as a black hole, and the normal injury problems... and it's no small wonder why we have the 2nd worst record in baseball.

What the heck is wrong with Posey?
I don't know that a thumb injury would cause Buster to lose his timing, but perhaps it was some combination of the two.

We wonder how the Giants could be so bad not all that long after being good, but even over two recent seasons the Giants have demonstrated the surprisingly large range of possible levels of performances even the same team can have.
The Giants were quite good early in this decade, but they weren't as good as three World Championships in five seasons would imply. Look at the two years in between the three very good ones.
Thus falling as "far" as they have is more possible than we would suspect.

I think it is time for Bochy to move to the front office Rog -- I don't think they have a crying need in the front office for Bruce, who is being paid a lot of money to manage. If his health gets bad enough, they might consider it out of respect. I think Bruce's managerial strength has long been his ability to motivate his players. Don't know if he's lost that or not. it is now 5 days since the closer duo has pitched in a game...tell me again why they shouldn't have pitched Sunday with 4 days rest...most teams pitch their closers before they sit in the pen too long even when they aren't in a closing situation. Rog -- Excellent point, Don. The Giants don't have a lot of relievers they can count on aside from their two "closers," who likely could use the work. The subsequent point about the questions about Melancon's arm health (I have already mentioned I think he is headed for Tommy John.) I think is a good one too. Maybe what Bruce was hoping to do was get one meaningful inning out of Matt prior to bringing in Dyson. Regarding the use of relievers, I agree with you, Don. I think a top reliever should be used at least once every three days. And I also think the goal should be for him to pitch every other day -- two straight days at the most. When a reliever is rehabbing in the minor leagues, the goal is usually to use him every other day. One would guess that is an indication of how relievers could most safely be used. And the top relievers also benefit from regular work in the opposite direction too. If they don't work for too long, they are prone to a bad performance. If even a top closer isn't used for a while, I try not to pitch him on my fantasy team. That's not something I learned FROM fantasy, but it has reinforced what I already knew. The concept of a closer has gone too far and in somewhat the wrong direction. A team should have TWO closers so they don't have to overuse the one and can use him as a fireman if a fire develops earlier in the game. Why wouldn't you use your closer in the seventh inning if that is the critical moment in the game? I would like to see a team develop at least two right-handers and one southpaw they feel is capable in the ninth. The Giants, for instance, might have Melancon, Dyson and Smith to fill those roles next season. Maybe Derek Law will bounce back. Maybe Hunter Strickland will prove capable of such a role. Osich has had something like 8 to 12 terrible outtings.
We've seen enough of him this year.
I'd rather roll Okert, or even roger out there in lieu of "Ball Four."
