In spite of arguably some of the WORST Umpiring, and absolutely, without question WORST replay jackasses I've EVER SEEN, the Giants manage to pull of 6 straight...
6 straight playing AGAINST 11-12-13 men!
9 Pirates, 1-2 umpires and the morons in the replay booth!
The umpiring was flat out ridiculous!
No excuses for the jackasses behind the plate!
None!
I can't stand Fahreed, but I'm with him on the "electronic" strike zone.
There is ZERO, and I mean freaking 0 explanation of how Belt was called out Saturday that would ever appease me.
Standing ON THE GOD BLESSED BAG! And they have the audacity to say he "didn't touch the base properly?
Blow it out your pie hole, replay morons!
Standing ON THE BAG!
What else could he have possibly done TO touch the base properly?
And calling Samardizja OUT, when at the MOST, it was too close to call?
On 0 evidence?
Someone needs to lose their job over that call!
Great wins IN SPITE of the horse crap they had to put up with.
I'm Sabean...I'm talking and screaming at the league office!
That crap has to stop.

I heard in church a joking reference to you, Boly, when it was said that a pessimist is just an optimist with experience. Got a lot of laughs, and I thought it was pretty funny. Needless to say the preacher wasn't recommending being a pessimist despite the joke.
The Giants have won six in a row, and you choose to post a thread on umpiring? I agree that the call appeared to be iffy at best (although it is also possible the league had angles to look at that we didn't, and that can change everything). But the Giants won.
Can't you ever look at the half full portion of the glass? Or do you have to beat a dead horse on a subject you're admittedly prejudiced on?
Love you, Boly, but let's not get down to the level of certain tweets, not that anyone has anything better to do than tweet.
I was pretty upset with our president until the Giants won!

Nope.
The glass is always 1/2 empty, Rog.
That's just me.
Now, to be honest, and all joking aside, I am/was thrilled to have won 6 in a row.
But here's the thing.
Whether we would have won those 6 or not, that post would have been coming.
I mean, as that series went on... I began getting more and more FURIOUS at those jackasses with each passing moment!
Calling Belt out for "not touching the base properly," set me on edge, and then when they called out Jeffy on what was CLEARLY, I don't care WHAT THE ANGLE was, sketchy information, put me over the top.
The replay morons DEFIED what their guiding principles are: clear evidence to over turn.
There wasn't any.
I almost made the post DURING the game I was so angry.
If most of us did OUR jobs as POORLY as those clowns did this weekend, we'd either be reprimanded, or out of a job completely.
There is no excuse for their sloppy execution.
none.
And the replay officials were just as bad and just as much at fault.
So ya'all, and I, of course, can be happy with the result.
But when you have to beat, 10-11-2-13 men to win?
That ain't right.

I haven't seen the Brandon Belt play yet. Which game was that?
I saw the Samardzija play, and he looked more safe than out to me, and certainly not out beyond doubt. But we don't know if there are other angles that are from the Pittsburgh feed and not available to us.
For you to call the umpires in New York out on that one is wrong -- unless you know for sure they didn't see any angles not available to us. One more point: Just because we don't see something doesn't mean they don't see it. But in terms of agreeing with you FOR SURE, I lean more toward the possibility of another angle as the primary reason.
Think about this for a moment when it comes to judging the replay. Replay gives us an advantage the umpire on the field didn't enjoy when he made the call. But if anything, New York has MORE information than we have on the replay.
But let's suppose they have only the same information we have. For us to say we know more about what a call should be than a trained umpire or group of umpires looking at the same thing we are looking at is preposterous. It would be like my walking into your classroom and with less knowledge, training and experience than you saying you were definitely wrong about something.
I'm not saying you don't know a lot about baseball. I'm not saying you haven't seen tens of thousands of calls. What I'm saying is that you're both far less trained and less objective than the umpires at making replay calls. For you to question is fine. For you to call them clowns is absurd and flat-out wrong. You're going against your own principles when you do so.

A side question, Boly. Isn't life less fun when we constantly look at the glass as being half empty?

Roger you're attempting to apply logic, which, though it makes sense, isn't that easy to apply.
At least not for me.
As Popeye said; "I am what I am," and sometimes, no matter how much I would like to change... it won't happen.

Very good answer, Boly. I don't especially like it, but I'm satisfied with it.
