If you have been on the Giant website today, you saw where Haft is saying Belt is a great fit for the Angels.
He's one in a list of 'media' guys saying that.
And I'm all for moving Belt IF...IF the Angels have something we want in return, and I'm not sure they do.
At least whom they'd be willing to move.
Moving Belt makes sense IF the above, and IF Hwang proves he can hit well enough to take that job until if/when Chris Shaw is ready.
Again, it would depend upon whom the Angels would part with, and I don't see ANYONE outside of Trout, who they would NOT move, Garrett Richards and Tyler Skaggs, who trips my trigger.
Richards has now be out 2 straight years, and Skaggs is on the 60 day DL.
Maybe there are players I'm missing, but Stinky Nolasco ain't one of them.

The Angels could certainly use Brandon, but I don't see them as a trading match. Andrelton Simmons would be intriguing, but the Giants have Brandon Crawford. The Angels' top two prospects, Matt Thaiss and Jahmai Jones aren't overly exciting. Reliever Cam Bedrosian I would have an interest in. Like Boly, I don't see the match there.
The Angels do have two relievers who have pitched well this season and are probably available -- Yusmeiro Petit and David Hernandez.

Glad we see the same thing, Rog.
Of all the names we both have mentioned, NONE would come close to a guy with Belt's potential power OUTSIDE of AT&T.
I would like to move him because he's frustrated me beyond belief!
But I'd never suggest we move him just to move him.

I'm growing more and more disenchanted with Brandon Belt and would trade him today for Petit and Hernandez. The bullpen needs help.

Not a chance that I'd do that, Rog.
Both Hernandez (age 32) and Petit (33) would be short fixes, and we aren't going to win this year anyway.
Besides, I hardly ever would trade a bat for an arm. Especially NOT two 32+ year old arms.
No thank you.

Sorry I didn't make it more clear, but I was joking. After all I've written about Brandon you didn't really think I'd trade him for a Petit/Hernandez sandwich, did you? I merely mentioned them because they are ex-Giants that the Giants had no use for.

By the way, if I post something that makes you think I'm losing my mind, pay no attention. You know very well that I've already lost it!

Whew! Scared me there, Rog!
I really didn't think you were joking!
Sorry.
I should have known better.

Brandon is certainly building his stock, as is Hunter Pence to arguably an even greater degree (although Hunter has a much longer road to travel). Hunter's catch today was excellent, although I noticed two things. First, he misplayed the ball immediately before it, although that one was a tough play. Second, Hunter's route to the ball wasn't bad, but it wasn't quite pure, either. He certainly gave it his all.
Thinking back, I think he has misplayed more balls to his left than to his right. Since his right is his backhand, any ideas why, Boly? Although it's probably a visual perception thing, which wouldn't necessarily be affected by backhand or forehand. Or am I even right that's he's had more trouble on balls to his left than to his right? Or is it magnified by how far off the line he needs to play at AT&T?
His biggest issues of course have come on balls over his head, rather than to his side or in front of him, but that's true of almost every outfielder. Or maybe those "errors" simply stand out more.

In a sense, playing the outfield and going left, or right, is the same as an infielder.
It's all about the 'read' off the bat.
For 3 years now I've been watching Hunter play RF and he is far, FAR from our best RF ever, in AT&T.
In fact, I would rate him as "just above average," out there.
I think you are correct; he DOES not go to his left as he does to his right.
Could be that he's right handed with a dominant right eye. That would be my guess.
But over these last 3 years there are literally DOZENS of balls, mostly to his left, that I believed he misplayed.
Good call, Rog.

Playing the infield is really TOUGH on balls side-to-side. You're right of course that it's much easier to get a read side-to-side than in or out, but the infielder also has to judge the hop. Side-to-side is much harder than for the outfielder, who even if the ball is bouncing to him has much more time to judge what is usually a simpler hop.
I think fans tend to overrate Hunter's defense because he always hustles. We sometimes think that if he can't get the ball with all his hustle, it just wasn't catchable.
It's tough to either evaluate or measure defense. But at least one metric indicates Hunter's last season as a good right fielder was 2009. I think his hustle has made him appear better than he truly is. As he's aging, even his hustle can't hide what are becoming more frequent and bigger misplays.
