I think it's time to just accept the Giants are no longer a team capable of winning another championship anytime soon.
A decade ago we had some influential veterans teaching the youngsters how to play the game right and how to carry themselves off the field. It took. And let's face it, Posey, Lincecum, Cain, Bumgarner and our bullpen had ice in their veins which was the perfect recipe for success.
These new guys are different, and it's noticeable. Melancon is a good pitcher, but he gets rattled and can't recover.
Are there changes we could make that would help? I don't think so at this point. The chemistry has been tainted by the Spans, Melancons, etc...
Short of bringing back Romo, Casilla, Vogelsong, Lincecum, Pagan, Blanco and a few others including the guy who took Melancon deep today it's just not going to happen.
But we know those changes won't happen, the fans spoke and the management listened. The fans wanted Lincecum, Vogey, Pagan, Blanco, Arias, Sanchez, gone, and now we're left with what you see today.

The magic is indeed gone, boagie.
But keeping those guys you mentioned wouldn't have changed a thing.
All of them were on the down hill sides of their careers.
What is upsetting to me, killing me, actually, is that we have the talent, but they simply are not performing anywhere near what's expected.
Outside of Panik there's no one.
Posey is hitting the softest .333+ I've ever seen.
Belt has had a few moments, but even he's been worse than normal.
Pence looks like he's suffering from concussion symptoms.
Nunez has reverted to what he had been prior to last year.
LF is even worse than a black hole.
CF... Stubbs has been awful at the plate, and if any team is counting on Gorkys for offense... sheesh.
Injuries have basically destroyed any chance we had.
Couple that with terrible play, and we're done.

Rog- But keeping those guys you mentioned wouldn't have changed a thing.
All of them were on the down hill sides of their careers.
Boagie- But we replaced some of those guys with players also on the downside of their careers, or they never really had an upside.
You wouldn't trade Stubbs and Span for Pagan and Blanco?
Nick Hundley for Hector Sanchez?
You wouldn't like to see Vogey as our long reliever?
Sure, they might have been on a downward turn, but the players I mentioned will give you 100%, no question about it. I'll take 100% over what we're getting now.

Honestly, Boagie, I'll take the players we have over Pagan, Blanco, Sanchez and Vogey.
But I will grant you this; THOSE guys ALWAYS gave 100% and then some.
Sanchez has such a huge hole in his swing that he's easy to pitch to.
Not that our guys can do it... but pretty much every other pitcher in baseball can.
And I blame Posey for both the HR to Hector and Myers.
Why?
Everyone from here to hell and back knows that there is only 1 pitch Hector can hit; down and in.
So where did Posey want it?
Down and in.
Same with Myers.
The book on Myers is well known; he's a middle in guy.
Where does Posey call for the pitch?
In.
Just plain stupid.
I've come to the conclusion that we have the DUMBEST pitching staff in baseball.

Actually Posey wanted it in on the corner at the belt against Sanchez, it ended up more over the plate and down.
Against Meyers Posey wanted it at the knees on the inside corner, it ended up out over the plate and up.

That's not what I saw when he set up, boagie.
I saw him set up down and in on both of them.
