Well, they won the game.
Bully for them.
They DIDN'T win when it counted the most back in 2014, so if they feel pacified; revenge complete, fine.
An early win in April doesn't even compare with a World Series win.
In the end Madison beat himself with his late break to first.
It happens.
Not often, but it happens.
Our starters seem to have gotten into a much better flow, which is what we all should expect from them.
Kough 'em up Kontos did what I expected him to do; (I can hear Rog growling now ) Kough (sp on purpose) up a run or two to make it that much harder to win..
Still don't know why he gets the call before Neil... but maybe that will come later.
Really not happy with our pathetic at bats, though. Not at all.
As Jim Brosnan wrote, "It's a long season," and we'll be there at the end.

Still don't know why he gets the call before Neil... but maybe that will come later. Rog -- We sometimes seem to see players in caricatures. No question George has been awful so far this season. Mark and I were concerned about that possibility, given how George's strikeouts have dwindled. I was hoping his exceptional strikeout spring training was changing that. So far it hasn't. But George still has a sub 3.00 career ERA. He's had a very nice career thus far, even with this poor start. As for Ramirez, I like him a lot too. 1.44 ERA three seasons ago. And he's had a nice season thus far. If his pitching and George's continue at their present levels, they will change places. But if we are criticizing George's career, his 2.97 ERA and 1.14 WHIP quickly tell us we're barking up the wrong tree. Kind of like when we criticize Madison Bumgarner's season to date. About the only thing I'm going to criticize him for is not covering first base quickly enough last night. He made a mistake a Little Leaguer wouldn't be expected to make. But major leaguers make mistakes. Not just Brandon Belt. I can't really criticize Madison's pitching this season. He's right at his career ERA and career WHIP. He's allowed a hit or two more than usual, but his walks and home runs are below his career average, and his strikeouts are above it. But he did make a Little League error in the field last night. No getting around that. And I'll bet he's all over himself for making that mistake, as he should be. Read more: sfgiantsmessageboard.proboards.com/thread/3819/kcs-hollow-victory#ixzz4eoVvdzo3

Do you expect George to hold the opponents scoreless every game? In 1999, Robb Nen had 37 saves for the Giants -- and gave up runs in 28% of his games. This season George has given up runs in 29% of his outings. In 2016 and 2017, he's given up runs in 23% of his games. Brandon Belt. George Kontos. Any other whipping boys? Has Boly ever liked any of our relievers?
He was rough on our core four. He hated Wilson's antics. The only reliever that I remember Boly ever having praise for was Jean Machi, who tanked soon after.
I love Boly's posts, but sometimes his frustration gets the better of his common sense.
But his frustration in the last few days here is something I feel as well. I'm ready to get rid of a number of players, bring back Tomlinson, and call up Morse, Arroyo and Hwang.
Say what you will about Tomlinson's lack of power, but he does things to win games and that's what we need right now.
I have no interest in watching Hill or Marrero take another at bat.
I'd also like to ask why the hell is Joe Panik still batting 8th while Aaron Hill and his sub .200 average is leading off? I know Bochy and our coaching staff aren't stupid, but some a decision like that would certainly indicate that they are.

Boagie, you nailed me perfectly! Often, not sometimes, my frustrations DO get in the way of my common sense.
Part of that is because I simply don't accept, nor am I willing to tolerate what is accepted these days in professional sports.
As to relievers, the last Giant relievers upon whom I was very high consistently, were Rod Beck and Robb Nen.
But even with Nen I was critical; he IGNORED base runners and as a former pitcher THAT drove me cookie-boo!
Being an OLDER former player is as much a curse as it is a benefit.
You see what should/could be, you remember what was, and then you see what is.
As much as I bitch and moan about our team there are a number of aspects that I absolutely love, right to the very core of my existence.
1-The internal, (with apologies to Galaxy Quest's Commander Taggert), never give up, never surrender, attitude. They DON'T quit. Not ever
2-Their mental toughness, which goes hand-in-hand with #1
3-The value and pride the club puts on defense and pitching.
4-Righetti's way of developing pitching
5-Bochy's incredible handling of the bullpen. Ned Yost keeps doing what he did in their 2 game series against us, and he'll burn up his pen by August, maybe sooner.

I think Joe Panik would have led off against a right-hander. I'm with you, Boagie. I would have led off with him against the southpaw as well.

I like the idea of Morse, Arroyo, Tomlinson and Hwang too. There likely isn't enough playing time for all those infielders, and Morse will likely provide more inspiration and perspiration than results. But Marrero and Hill don't appear to be answers -- at least not to the questions Giants fans should be asking.
With both Arroyo and Hwang as possible third basemen, I see no reason not to get Nunez out on the grass. Well, perhaps just medical grass. If necessary to provide more development time for Arroyo and Hwang, play Hill at third and Eduardo in left for a while.
Hwang isn't hitting too well yet. Just .264/.662. Together though, he and Arroyo are hitting about .350!

I heard the pre game interview with Wotus.
HE said that he put Aaron in the 1 hole because:
1-He had great numbers against Vargas
2-He was swinging the bat well.
Really.
I'm with ya'all. I lead off with Joey the P, not Aaron the Horrible.

If I were the Giants, I would have had a discussion about holding base runners with Nen (which the Giants likely did), hoping to find a way for him to be productive against batters while holding on runners. But if not, the results he got were pretty good.
Beck had his faults, but he was a battler just like the other two.
Wilson was a high-WHIP guy who put a scare into us almost every time out, but got the job done nicely.
For the most part, both Sergio Romo and Santiago Casilla were pretty good, although each had his significant slump.
You might be happier, Boly, if you judged players by what they are rather than what you think they could become. Hey, I could give some advice to Willie Mays, but he was the best player I ever saw.
He could have given me advice too, such as "Don't quit your day job!"

If Hill hits Vargas well, I might have put him somewhere like 6th in the order I think too though that Joe may have been in a small slump.

Team is awful right now. Gorkys, Marrero and Hill should be DFA'd by tonight's game. I might be talked into giving Marrero another two weeks but not the other two. The fact that it's a long season is usually soothing news to fans of a team. Right now it looks to me like a threat. Five more months of watching bad baseball

I'm still confident the Giants will turn things around (although losing Madison is a big blow). I'm concerned about how well the Diamondbacks and particularly the Rockies are playing.
Way early in the season, but suddenly the next six games look important.

Hernandez is looking more and more helpless and clueless at the plate each and every day.
In fact, I'd go so far as to call him "pathetic."
Marrero was hotter 'n a proverbial pistol coming out of ST.
It is to be expected he'd cool off.
Problem is, his 'cool off' came as the season started.
I'm with Mark; I give him more time.
But right now... and Lord this hurts to say, that Upton is looking like a better option as is Stubbs... and I really CAN'T STAND Upton.

It's simple, really. Move Nunez to left, play Arroyo at third, and replace Gorky with Upton. Pray for enough starting pitching.

We have starting pitching?
A couple of days ago, I thought we did.
But... Bum's irresponsibility cut us deeply.
Moore has been borderline terrible in all of his starts.
Jeffy the Stubborn can't spell 1-2-3 inning.

Johnny's last outing was disappointing. Madison's injury may prove disasterous. Moore has disappointed me. I'm not yet convinced by Matt. Jeff has disappointed me somewhat, but my expectations were limited. I see Blach as likely being a decent fifth starter -- but little more. Beede is a question mark. He's shown potential, but he's not off to a great start at Sacramento.
I don't see the rotation picking up the slack caused by Madison's loss. A trade isn't likely to overcome it either, but it might help.
