Had I been in the dugout yesterday, after Righetti spoke with Miller and Kruk, I would have hugged Rags.
He said would do EXACTLY what I wanted us to do; NOT worry about LH/RH match ups, and find that RH who can get LH's out, taking the BEST of the pitchers into the season and NOT just an extra lefty... because he was a lefty.
THAT, IMHO, is THE correct attitude.
Take the best arms, not just a LH because... well, I need match ups.
I also have to re evaluate my position on Kontos.
Watching a number of his last 5 outtings... right 'now' he doesn't appear to the be the putz with whom I was unhappy.
He seems to have reverted into the guy we had when we first brought him up; Throwing strikes and getting people out.

Remember when he gave up a three-run homer and we were saying it was just more of the same? It wasn't. Now that the spring is nearly complete, we're seeing more of the same thing. More strikeouts, as were explained in a previous thread, but similar results. In fact, George's ERA this spring is significantly higher than any he has posted the past three seasons. How did George do in those three seasons? 2014 -- 2.78 ERA, 1.08 WHIP 2015 -- 2.33 ERA, 0.94 WHIP 2016 -- 2.53 ERA, 1.16 WHIP 2017 -- 4.50 ERA, 0.90 WHIP George has been much more dominant this spring, but his results have been somewhat comparable to the past three seasons. As for his throwing more strikes when he came up, in 2011 he walked 2.47 per nine innings. That's almost identical to the 2.37 he's walked the past three seasons. As for getting guys out, his WHIP in 2011 was 1.05. His WHIP the past three seasons has been 1.04. Again, almost identical. George's effectiveness the past three seasons has been virtually the same as in his first season. Only his 2013 season was disappointing. Now, that season he DIDN'T throw as many strikes (2.9 BB/9) or get nearly as many out (1.41 WHIP). But his results in 2011 were remarkably similar to his results the past three seasons.
