I forgot to mention that Andrew Baggarly said that Matt Cain would likely be the fifth starter this season. Neither he nor his top competition, Ty Blach, particularly distinguished himself today.
One pitcher who did so was Bryan Morris, who pitched a perfect inning with one strike out. Someone mentioned him recently. I think it was Marty Lurie. Some luck has been involved, but Morris does possess a career 2.80 ERA.
Marty also mentioned Orlando Calixte, who sounds like Sacramento depth. He mentioned though that Calixte was a marvelous fielder, and certainly the Giants have no such player to back up Brandon Crawford and others. Caliste got a hit today and now is hitting .500/1.167 over the two games.
The player we've been excited about certainly helped his stock today. Jae Gyun Hwang hit a three-run homer in his only at bat. WAY too early to make much of that, but Boagie and I did like the looks of his video. If Hwang proves out, the Giants have promised to make Boagie and me scouts. If he does poorly, they are going to force us to be Dodgers fans!
The bottom line is that it's nice to have baseball games again -- even if they won't count for over a month.
