How did you view the White Sox trading Chris Sale and Adam Eaton for Yoan Moncada and Lucas Giolito, two of the very top prospects in the game, and a handful of other very good prospects as well? They likely aren't through, but they have already taken two big steps toward rebuilding.
Third baseman Todd Frazier and closer Dave Robertson are two of the other White Sox said to be available. The Nationals are chasing Robertson after it might be deemed that they overpaid (Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez and Dane Dunning) for Eaton, a fleet outfielder about whom there are wide variances in opinion. The White Sox got three very nice young arms in the deal.
Perhaps not surprisingly, ex-players an others seem to favor existing players over prospects. Certainly there is uncertainty with even the best of prospects. But acquiring prospects deemed by metricians and scouts to have a good chance of succeeding is the way to refill the cupboard. Just make sure you get some of Old Mother Hubbard's BEST prospects. Some of her kids are real problem children!
