We've discussed the impact luck can play in individual games. Here is a scenario in which the Giants beat the Cubs in game one:
. If Conor Gillaspie hadn't moved in Baez was strongly considering bunting. It's unlikely he would have bunted a game-winning home run.
. If not for the harsh wind, Buster Posey's blast off Aroldis Chapman would likely have been out.
. If Hernandez hadn't been called out on a very questionable check swing, that homer might have been a two-run shot.
. If Eduardo Nunez hadn't been injured, he quite possibly would have beat out his game-ending chopper.
I'm not complaining. That's all part of the game. But it does show how far a little luck can go.

It always amazes me how stats geeks would enjoy the games just as much if they were played by nerds on computers instead of on a real ball field
