I am at a loss to explain what's going on with Hunter Pence right now, and what has been going on for almost 10 days.
He's always been a wild swinger, but over these last 10 days it's like he's NOT seeing the ball at all!
he takes strike after strike after strike.
Many right down the freaking gut of the plate.
Then he flails, because that's what he's doing, at pitches, up and in and WAY out of the strike zone.
We're used to him going into those funks where he chases ANY breaking ball.
But missing all of these fastballs?
Man!
Something is wrong.
And we need for him to fix it, and fix it right, the stink now.
Can't NOT have his bat working if the Giants plan to win.

Hunter also hurt the Giants by missing a fly ball he should have had. Not an easy play, but one we would expect a right fielder to make.

Agree. That's a play Hunter normally back-pockets.
I think it's obvious that he's not 100%

No one mentioned it, but Hunter also made a base running mistake in game 2.
Pence led off the top of the second with a single. Brandon Crawford then hit a sharp ground ball to first baseman Anthony Rizzo, who came close to turning a double play when he threw to second to narrowly retire Hunter before the Cubs nearly also doubled Brandon on the return throw to first base.
What was the mistake, since as usual Hunter hustled all the way? The mistake was that he continued to run on the outside of the baseline rather than moving to the inside to make the throw far more difficult for Rizzo. That would have made Rizzo change the angle of his throw, which had he not done so, would have hit Hunter in the back.
An easy mistake to make, and apparently not one that garnered much attention here, but a clear mistake nonetheless.

How ya like him NOW?
Rog -- I like Hunter a lot.
His pluses:
. He's an inspirational leader.
. He plays the game the way it was meant to be played.
. He's a good hitter whose power, while a bit modest, helps a team such as the Giants who are light on power.
. He can carry a team for a while.
. Until the past two seasons he had been the physical rock of the game.
. He's a good base runner.
His minuses:
. He's streaky as all get out and at time seems not to require a pitch in the strike zone.
. The past two seasons his health has been a huge issue. He's been able to play what has essentially been a season over the two-year period.
. He's a below-average right fielder.
. His hair needs work.
