Firstly, the Bullpen.
That's a no brainer.
Or rather, the closer. The pen actually did a good job.
2-Posey-He flat out STUNK with the bat. 68 RBIs? That's pathetic
3-Span-His history said he'd do much, much better. Well, so much for history. Puss arm, TERRIBLE OBP, .255ish. Not nearly what we expected.
4-Panik-I think back to players who were conked on the head... and how they did afterwards... 50-50 Don Wert, Tigers, mid 60's. Usually a .250-260 hitter. After he got beaned? Struggled to hit .200
so which Joey do we have? Joey before the knoggin knock? Or the .250 hitter we have now?
5-Belt in the 2nd half. Loved his first half, can't have this crap in the 2nd half.
6-Injuries. All teams have them, but our team was gutted and gutted early; Tomlinson, Adrianza, Panik, Pence, Cain. And UNLIKE Kershaw... when our guys came back... they struggled for a while. sometimes a long while.
7-At this point, it doesn't matter.

5-Belt in the 2nd half. Loved his first half, can't have this crap in the 2nd half. Rog -- What is crap is that Brandon's second half has been horrible. He's hitting only .225, so clearly it hasn't been great, but he does have a .714 OPS in the second half, which is better than most of the Giants. But the WAY he's done it is what is highly impressive (admittedly in the context of a .225 batting average). With runners in scoring position, he's hit a very good .294 with a .515 SLG. That's far, far better than the Giants' RBI leader, Brandon Crawford, has done in the second half. With runners on, he's at .327/.531, which is close to excellent. What was our criticism of Belt entering the season? That he doesn't drive in enough runs. What was our complaint even after his very good first half? Still that he doesn't drive in enough runs. So despite a bad second half overall, what does he do? He hits really well with runners on base and in scoring position, just what a player needs to do to drive home runners. And indeed, he's the Giants' leader in second half RBI's and is within four of the team lead for the season. We complain that Brandon has been inconsistent, but our criticism has been even more inconsistent with logic. We're simply looking for things to criticize Brandon for. When he hits great in the first half, he doesn't drive in enough runs (even though he hit well with runners on and in scoring position, which means he didn't receive a lot of opportunities). When he slumps in the second half, we criticize that, even though he continues to hit well with runners on and in scoring position. We have very little logic behind our constant complaining against Brandon. He's been the Giants' best hitter this season, and yet we continue to criticize him. He's had his best season, and yet we criticize him. He's set new career highs in RBI's, triples, walks, OBP,OPS and sacrifice flies (tied), and yet we criticize him. He's within striking distance of setting new career highs in hits, doubles, home runs and total bases, and yet we criticize him. Let's be honest. We don't like his body language, and we want him gone. Who cares that he's been the Giants' best hitter and one of their best fielders this season? Brandon has been inconsistent, so why shouldn't we be? Read more: sfgiantsmessageboard.proboards.com/thread/3502/went-wrong#ixzz4KuAySeWw

At this point, it doesn't matter.
Rog -- Of COURSE it does. It may not matter a dozen days from now, but it matters a LOT right now.

His body language has no effect on me at all, Rog.
My complaint has been and continues to be... his prolonged, inexplicable slumps.
that's it.
His defense is near the top of the league, for sure, and he IS now driving in runs.
I said 80 was my magic number, and it looks like he'll get that.

My complaint has been and continues to be... his prolonged, inexplicable slumps. Rog -- That is a good point. Let's examine it. In their four full seasons with the Giants, Belt's month-to-month OPS changes have averaged 150 points per month. Pence's have averaged 167 points. Both players have been highly inconsistent. In their four full seasons with the Giants, Belt's first to second half changes have averaged 92 points per half to Pence's 102 points. Again, both players have been inconsistent. Year-to-year Belt's changes have averaged 62 points, while Pence's changes have been only 29 points. Belt has been somewhat average in his consistency from year to year, while Pence has been quite consistent. Overall, both players have been more inconsistent than most. Yet we're all over Belt, and not saying much about Pence. Pence's consistency as a Giant has been a little better than Belt's, but not by all that much. Belt's OPS as a Giant has been .814 to Pence's .789. Belt has hit a little better than Pence, and Pence has been a little more inconsistent (or less INconsistent). Very little difference given how well we treat Pence to how well we treat Belt. Throw in how much better Belt is as a fielder than Pence (who is no prince), it's very hard to see why Pence is considered so much better than Belt. The longest hitless streaks I can find for Belt and Pence are 0 for 16 for Belt and 0 for 26 for Pence.

Belt BA:
in July: .226 in August: .237
Best hitter on the team? If so, it says more about how bad the team's offense is.

I suggest you re think how you're checking on Belt, Rog. At one point he was something like 3 for 43 or something like that.
