No one's saying a word about Madison... but I am.
And I've said it before.
Something AIN'T right.
His ERA in the last 6 or 7 games, according to the Arizona announcers, is something like 4.+
His velocity rarely tops 91 anymore, and he keeps finding the fat of the plate.
Oh, year, every once in a while, we see the old Madison, like his Cub start, but we're seeing this guy all too often.
Falling behind in counts, 4 or 5 run outtings...
He ain't right.
He just ain't.

Madison's fastball velocity last night was among his slowest of the season, but the three games before that it was near its top on campaign. So his fastball velocity doesn't seem to be a sympton of his problem. Thre heater is a little over one mph slower than last season, but that has been going on since the beginning of the season, at which time Madison was pitching his best ball of the year.
There is definitely something different of late. Madison's ERA his past five starts is a hefty 5.24, or more than twice as high as it was running before the All-Star break. But I think the problem has been more command than velocity. He's had a reduced velocity all season long.

I agree with all of your points, Rog.
I think his command problems are a symptom of... well, something.
And based upon my history, I'm leaning towards mechanics.
How many times this year alone have we heard Krukow talk about "Madison struggling with his mechanics?"
More times than we've ever heard before.
Much like Matt Moore when Moore DOESN'T bring that right leg high enough to stay in sync, I see the same thing with Bumgarner.
His delivery is NOT simple; it's complex, though NOT as complex as Lincecum.
He has a big turn, and throws across his body, both of which require the body to be in extreme sync.
This year, all too often, he's been out of sync.
Let's face it, over a period of 5 or 6 starts, for him, an ERA over 5 is ridiculous.
Thus my comment; something's wrong.
