When Duffy took over for Sandoval at 3B, I was impressed by how much range Duffy brought to the position.
it was a massive DEFENSIVE upgrade, IMHO.
But again, IMHO, Nunez is an even MORE massive upgrade over Duffy, than Duffy was over Sandoval.
Yeah, he was shaky when he first got here, but MAN! That kid has not only shown outstanding range, but he's flashed the leather in an unbelievable fashion!
Now... if ONLY he would start to hit even close to what he did in Minnesota!

Ron Wotus has been working with Eduardo, and perhaps Ron is a fielding guru as Dave Righetti is a pitching guru. Nunez wasn't as bad as he initially looked, but he hadn't been anything approaching a good fielder in his career. Suddenly he's Brooks Robinson.
We're quick to place blame, but maybe we should give Wotus some credit.

I see one HUGE reason for his fielding success, Rog, Wotus aside.
He's now playing almost exclusively 3B.
His fielding problems were at SS.
I had the SAME problem.
Outstanding at 2B and 3B... but not very good at SS.
I believe it has to do with how our eyes see the ball off the bat.
Also, at 3B he just mostly has to react...At SS there's a lot of time to 'think' as the ball comes to you.

Just today Eduardo caught up to the number of innings he played third base for Minnesota prior to the trade. As you say, he did play more shortstop than third for the Twins.
But he wasn't very good at third base for them either. And you will recall that he was horrid his first few days with the Giants. I don't know all the reasons he's done so, but Eduardo looks to have turned his defense around more quickly than any player I can remember.
Even as a third baseman, Eduardo was pretty darn bad defensively for the Twins. He was so bad that even with his fine play with the Giants, he is rated mostly in the negative over the full season by the defensive metrics. Two things I will say about Eduardo's defense: He's unorthodox in a way that I think may make him look a little better than he truly is. Also, personally I just LOVE to watch him make that underhand throw.
On the bases, I'm guessing he had the green light most of the time, but he certainly isn't stealing nearly as much as he did with the Twins.
