The Giants have some rather.... disturbing trends taking place.
No, it's not the lack of run scoring, because our bats did 'seem' to wake up last night.
No, it's not the bullpen. They appear to be settling down and pitching better.
No,it's not the defense. We have a solid defensive team, all the back up players included.
It's the starting pitching that has taken a noticeable trend towards the toilet.
Samardizja, Peavy and Cain (although really, with only 1 start it's not fair to put Cain in this group), have all begun to give up the long ball at an alarming rate.
Alarming.
Bochy can sugar coat things all he wants; "he only gave up 4 hits..." But 3 of those 4 hits were flat out crushed, Bochy, we're lucky they didn't leave the PLANET, much less the ballpark!
Same thing that happened in Boston.
Bottom line is this; of our starting 5, only 2 are pitching well, and that's not going to cut it.
So, with that in mind, and with the trade deadline approaching, I'm suggesting Bobby Evans re-think the kind of 'impact' player he's going after.
And I'm saying that it really should be a starting pitcher.
It's not that we don't need a shut down closer, we do.
It's just that... I see the trend... I see the decline in effectiveness, especially from Jeffy S.
10 straight bad starts isn't a slump, it's a trend.
It's a pattern.
And it's got to stop.
Thing is, even though I was a HUGE proponent of the deal that brought Jeffy S. here, the fact of the matter is this.
He's been stinking up the lot for his last... what, 10 starts?
We have 2 starters.
2.
Can't win with 2.
We have 3 players who at least "appear" that they'll be back within 2 weeks.
How much impact will they have?
Let me put it this way, my fingers will be crossed.
And here's hoping we won't be 6 games behind before their effect takes hold.
6 games behind.
Right now, that's what I'm seeing.
6 games behind.
