Of the 3 I would say that the absence of Pence is the most dramatic; as in HE'S the one we need back the most.
Just too potent a bat to be missing, and that doesn't even BEGIN to cover what his energy on the field does for the team.
Panik is missed in other ways, often subtle ways. In the last couple of games I've watched Pena boot, or simply NOT make plays I believe Joe would have made.
He's helped with the bat, no question... but he cost us at least one run yesterday.
Duffy-Very steady glove, and much surer hands that Gillaspie. And after watching Connor play 3B, I NOW understand why he really wasn't in much demand. He doesn't have much range, has an inaccurate arm, and really does NOT have soft hands.
That rocket he booted Friday night? Tough play, but a MAKE-ABLE play that he failed to make. Cost us big time.
From my observations, the other teams BELIEVE they can bunt on him.
We get all three back BEFORE the end of July, and we'll be okay.
But at this stage, Duffy STILL feeling soreness is a cause for BIG concern.
And until we hear back about Pence... I'm very concerned about him, too.
IF Pence can't come back before August, we need not just bullpen help, but we'll need a bat, too.
