Kevin Durant just signed with the Warriors after previously making a comment about wanting to play his entire career in Oklahoma City. Now some butthurt OKC fans are burning his jersey and calling him a punk and other nasty things after he did nothing but great things for their team and their community. It is so eerily similar to what I read on this board about Pablo last year. It's an absolute joke. What, people aren't allowed to change their mind anymore?

Did Durant say he'd only miss the head coach and one player? Did he say Oklahoma City was just another city to him? If he did that then I can see the similarity.

No and I don't expect him to. KD is much more mature and classy than Pablo behaved. BUT as classy as Kevin has always shown himself to be, OKC fans still hate him now for exercising his right as a free agent to sign with a new team. They arent mad at the team for failing to sign him to an extension BEFORE he became a free agent. They aren't grateful for all he did in Oklahoma. They are just bitter and spiteful.
Oh and FYI...there was hate and anger here BEFORE Pablo made those specific ridiculous statements

Not from this board that I recall, Randy. I was dissapointed that he chose Boston, but I wished him the best. It's only after he behaved like a child that I lost the respect for him.

I may be wrong but I do believe Boly and Rx were pretty much all over Pablo right after he signed

I think they were upset that he said he wanted to be a Giant forever, then signed with Boston for essentially the same contract the Giants offered him. I was equally upset about that, but our disappointment in him fell far short of burning his jersey.

that was my original point...that people in OKC are upset about similar statements made by KD about wanting to stay in their city. But people ARE allowed to change their minds. We shouldnt bash them for it.

I agree with Randy that people should be allowed to change their minds. On the other hand, they should stick with what they say. Kevin said he was really sorry to leave Oklahoma City, which I thought was good.
I thought the Giants shouldn't re-sign Pablo Sandoval, but as Randy said, he had the right to leave himself, just as they had the right not to re-sign him (which they themselves didn't exercise).
The one that hurt me was when Lebron James left Cleveland. He was brought up in nearby Akron, and I felt he was being disloyal to the Cleveland fans -- especially when he put on a one-hour TV show to jilt them. Still, it was his right, and eventually he did return and lead the Cavaliers to Cleveland's first title as a city since 1964.
I do understand how fans can feel jilted, just as they could feel very disappointed if their team traded their favorite. One of the things the Giants have done right is to tie up their top players before waiting for free agency. That has worked very well for them thus far.
I don't think Randy liked the idea of the Giants' extending Brandon Belt for a fair amount of money, but thus far the signing looks like a bargain. The thing about taking a risk early in a player's career is that the signing team risks LESS than if it signs him after he has built up an even stronger or at least longer resume.
Teams are going to make mistakes. They can only hope the mistakes they make aren't too big. As an example, it would have hurt a lot more if the Giants had made a mistake with Johnny Cueto than it did when they gave Tim a two-year contract that was risky and didn't wind up paying off.
I think they made very nice and reasonably early assessments of Posey, Bumgarner and the two Brandon's. They also were correct on Hunter Pence. Their biggest mistakes have likely been with Lincecum and Matt Cain. But it is easy to understand how they might have erred with two players who have been so important to the team's recent success. And while the dollars weren't insignificant by any means, at least they were mid-sized mistakes instead of really big ones.

The Cain and Lincecum contracts would be discussed more in a negative light if the Giants hadn't won 3 Championships during their tenure.

The points I was making though were that while those weren't insignificant mistakes, they involved eight figures, not nine; that all teams make mistakes; and that mistakes can be overcome (especially by the haves) if they aren't so big as to be debilitating.
