That is my new nickname for Belt. I've watched that play over and over and I keep coming up with the same thing...the guy has NO HEART. If I was in that situation and I had two broken legs I would have been crawling my ass as fast as I could back to the base instead of whimpering like a sissy girl off to the side. He reminded me of Shawn Estes sliding into second against the Mets. Pence would have got back and thousands of guys in the minors would have at least made the effort to get back. But the freakin Giraffe just lays down like a dog. This is the kind of crap that drives Boly and me crazy about this guy. It isnt that he isnt good...he is, and has been a big part of this team thus far. It's that he shows little desire to be the best he can or at times that he cares at all.
What a putz

You weren't in Brandon's shoes, so you really aren't in position to judge. It's not that I don't think I would have handled the situation just the way you said you would have; it's that we weren't in Brandon's shoes to be sure.

I'm not condoning his laying there like a pusscake, but apparently he though he was out. I don't think it's his heart that should be in question, it's his brain, because the fricken ball hit him!! which means he's safe unless it's dodgeball!

Actually Rog, I HAVE been in that position before. I have often been injured while playing sports and each time I did all I could to make sure the play was made even after the injury. The only difference was I wasn't being paid millions of dollars to do it.

I think anyone who's been injured during a sporting event and continued the play while hurt is in a position to judge, Rog.
I hyperextended my knee during a game catching a ball, but I threw it in before hitting the ground, and I was just 11. It hurt like a mother too.

Thanks Matt...but now that I think of it, I should call Belt the Tin Man (no heart) and you should call him the Scarecrow (no brain).

I'm with Randy on this one.
Belt pussed out, just like Estes did under Dusty Baker.
He slid into 2nd and twisted his ankle and was so busy whining and crying, they tagged him out.
I've been there!!!!!
In 1974 while playing ball in the military, I ripped a drive to LCF.
Half way to 2b I FELT and HEARD my hamstring pop.
I CRAWLED AND CLAWED my way to 2b.
In that incredible pain, I was NOT going to make it worse by being tagged out!
Screw that crap!
Belt pussed out, just like Estes did, and I'm glad someone saw the same thing that I did!
I'm tired of pampered, spoiled, whining, crying spoiled brats!
Play to freaking win!

Rog -- I think we all feel that way. What we don't feel is what Brandon went through on the play, what he felt, what he was thinking. Perhaps we should walk at least 90 feet in his shoes before making that judgment. Read more: sfgiantsmessageboard.proboards.com/thread/3331/baby-putz#ixzz49xbG8jnV

For me, Rog, it's simple:
1-Every sport involves pain. That's a given.
2-Momentary pain, as in the Estes and Belt situations, does not take precedence over winning
3-Unless you heard a bone break, or a joint pop, you don't like there like a 3 year old whining and whimpering. You FINISH THE PLAY.
Neither Belt nor Estes did that.
Krukow tried to cover for Belt... but I wasn't buying it.
Thought he was out my fanny!

Rog, I don't get your reference to either Ozzie Smith, or throwing the second stone.

The Baby Putz was available to PH the next game ans was in the lineup after missing just one start...and he was laying on the field like he lost a leg. What a douche.

Rog, I don't get your reference to either Ozzie Smith, or throwing the second stone. Rog -- Good questions, Boly. Randy had said that he should be calling Belt the Tin Man (no heart) and that Boagie should call him the Scarecrow (no brain). I was wondering whom we should call the Wizard. Randy had already thrown the first stone. Apparently he deeded it necessary to throw the second as well. Randy said he had been in that position before, and others echoed the sentiment. I think just about all of us have been in SIMILAR situations, and I'll bet we did indeed react much better than Brandon. But we weren't in HIS shoes, feeling HIS pain and understanding what HE understood. I think just about all of us were reminded of the Estes play in the 2000 playoffs against the Mets. And I think just about all of us believe we ourselves would have done better than either Shawn or Brandon. And quite possibly we would have, given that we've been in similar situations and acquitted ourselves better. But we weren't in the very same situation as either Estes or Belt. Regarding Estes' play, I remember wishing the Giants had brought in Mark Gardner instead of Kirk Rueter to replace Estes. The Giants were no doubt already planning to have Gardner start game 4, but it was close between him and Kirk. If Gardner had come in, he would have turned the Mets' lineup around. Dusty likely compounded the situation further in game 4 when he didn't pinch hit for Mark in the top of the fifth with the Giants trailing 4-0 but having the bases loaded and two outs. I'm sure Dusty had reasons for both decisions (especially the first one), but they didn't wind up helping the situations. The Wizard of Oz!
Got it!
Man! Am I slow on the up take!
But I LIKE the moniker Tin man, and I also like Scare crow.
Both fit Belt, IMHO.

Injuries have a "life" of their own....I banged up a leg on a practice parachute jump before going overseas...I couldn't move even though I was in danger of being dragged by the wind blowing my parachute...after an officer collapsed my chute and got me out, a medic looked at my ankle and decided it was sprained, not broken....he wanted me to go to the hospital but I asked him to tape it up so I could see if I could walk....since my pain had gone down and I felt mobile enough to continue, I rejoined my company and went off on a 15 mile forced march ended with a village attack with live ammunition....so like a ball player... couldn't even crawl to "second", but after a brief visit by the "trainer" I was able to get back in the game....
