Honestly, boagie, I was planning on posting this before I read your response to my Panik thread.
I was going to post it last night, but I was too tired.
And I'm being serious.
Matt Duffy IS struggling.
Might be just in his head, or it might not, but this simply ISN'T the same hitter we saw last year, nor the same hitter who opened the season so hot.
Yeah, he's hit some balls hard, and yeah, he's had TERRIBLE luck.
But IF I'm Brucy -B, I want to take some pressure off of him.
Right now. TONIGHT, I move Duffy down to 7th or 8th, and hit Crawford 3 hole.
Crawford's seeing it well, Matty is just... well, not.
My line up for tonight. And below that what I predict BOCHY will do.
Span Panik Crawford Posey (WHO really SHOULD HAVE BEEN RESTED YESTERDAY!!!!) Pence Belt Duffy Pagan Peavy
My Bochy Prediction:
Span Panik Duffy Posey---1B Belt Pence Crawford Brown Pagan Peavy.
Belt and Posey BOTH need a night off... but against Arieta?
Not a smart move.

always good to have 2 first basemen in the lineup when they are not hitting....how about playing Gillaspie and resting Duffy? ?

Haven't the Giants pretty much been resting Buster when Peavy pitches? Maybe Jake likes pitching to Brown. And if so, isn't that a good time to rest Buster if he's got to be rested?

I agree, Rog. We have.
Only Bochy's not listening.
I know what he's trying to do, and it does make some sense:
Pagan, Span, Panik, Duffy, all table setters later in the game, for the big 3: Posey, Belt and Pence.
But right now, Duffy is having problems between his ears.
It's not for lack of trying, though.
The kid COMES to play every day.

As for setting the table: Panik .357 career OBP. Span .353 OBP. Pagan .331 OBP. Duffy .323 OBP.
The first two set the table well. Pagan sometimes gets lost on his way to the table. Duffy has a hard time finding it. Pagan shouldn't be leading off, and Duffy shouldn't be batting third. The former isn't happening often. The latter is happening far too much.

Totally agree with both points, Rog.
But as I said, with Duffy in the 3 hole, that gives Bochy a guy who, in theory, anyway, can execute the H/R.
I understand what he's trying to do, but like you, I don't agree with it.
Now, when he was driving in runs like he was last year, we could live with it.
Now?
He's an out waiting to happen.
