I think we have a very competitive league going. My team did much better than I had imagined after I missed draft day. If you haven't noticed, I've made a ton of moves. Picking up Angel Pagan out of the free agent pool has helped me thus far, as has Colby Rasmus. My pitching depth still worries me, but I'm hanging in there for now. Mike Trout better pull his head out of his ass if I have any chance at winning in week 2.
Oh and Mark, thanks for Joe Panik! he's been one of my better players.

Not then, he may get the better end of the deal, Kinsler has been pretty good for him as well. he might be "paniking" now though, he's up against a tough competitor for week 2

I have said this before, but I believe it bears saying again:
I am having a TON of fun with this league -- and I say that even though thus far my team hasn't performed nearly as well as I thought it would.
The league led to my being IM-ed by Boagie the other night, and we had a great conversation, something that hadn't happened in all the years of the board. I knew Matt knew his stuff, but I have even more respect for him now.

Fantasy re-emphasizes how players streak up and down.
When I picked up Sano, I thought I had made a real coup. But so far he has picked up almost no points. He's been by far my most disappointing player.
On the other hand, I picked up Story hoping he might help my team, and offensively, he carried me to what was a very close victory with him and would have been a clear-cut defeat without him. Now I just traded him and quite possibly made a big mistake.
One thing I'm still adjusting to is how little the point system values stolen bases. And now that I think about it, it probably values steals accurately. But in the other league Mark and I play in, it is its own category, to be won or lost. That system makes a steal worth about the same as a home run.
The point system values a home run four times as much as a steal, which in the real world is a far more accurate assessment of its value. So I actually should be speaking HIGHLY about the point system in that regard.
I do think the game would be more accurate though if innings were credited with say 2 1/2 points instead of three. That said, a pitching scoring system based only on innings and earned runs would more closely approximate a baseball game.
The important thing is to be able to adapt to whatever scoring system is used. We can learn more about what a manager and general manager have to consider in playing players or trading them, but in order to perform best in our own fantasy game here, we need to think within the context of that game.

Boagie- Thanks for the kind words, Rog. I'm having fun too. I was having a lot of fun yesterday when I got a good amount of early points. Then Cain and Tillman imploded and I wound up with negative points, putting me way behind Mark for the week. Not so much fun yesterday. But I think our league is well balanced, and should be very competitive.
As far as us talking on instant message, I recall us doing that somewhat regularly back when I was new to Wagasamarc's board. I can't really remember when that was exactly. I know I spoke to a poster named BamBam regularly, do you remember him? And then I talked to Marc somewhat regularly too. I know he liked to talk about his garden a lot, and of course minor league ball. I miss Marc, he was a kind hearted soul. Not sure what happened to BamBam, he was an interesting fella, very animated.
I want to say I started on the board around 2003, 2004.

I kind of remember the name BamBam (although I might be thinking of Sir Hensley Meulens!), but I don't remember him nearly as well as you do. I am happy that I have met Marc, Boly, Allen and the unforgettable Erc. I have been blessed by meeting each of them.
Did you say you're back in the Bay Area, Boagie? If so, we should get together. Same with anyone else in the Bay Area.
I live in the Sacramento area now, but I still get to the Bay Area (mostly East Bay) about 15 to 20 times a year. My best friend lives in Vallejo and has Alzeimers.
I'm looking forward to going to the game Tuesday night on Cal night, even though I believe it will mean having to DVR the Warriors game.

I forget his exact screename, but it had Bam or BamBam in it, he liked to refer to himself as BamBam. Perhaps I remember him best because he's the one that invited me to the board, with Marc's blessing. As I recall he was pretty close friends with Marc.
Allen I miss the most posting wise. He was a great poster.
I did see Mordy's great day yesterday. He could have shared some of those points with me, I certainly needed some yesterday.

Boagie- I am back, but I'm not sure for how long, my old boss in Seattle is trying to lure me back and the bait keeps getting bigger. I already have a few tickets this season, so I'd hate to have those go to waste.

I used to talk to Bam Bam all the time, he was a great guy and worked in the film business and told me some great stories, like sun bathing with a topless Rosario Dawson! Lucky bastard! As for you, Boagie, you have one day to come back and beat me, but it will take a great comeback. I can't get too cocky though, because Rog kicked my ass in the Yahoo league last week! As for our trade, Panik hasn't looked too good lately, but I should have gone with my original instincts and not acquired Carlos Gomez, who was awful for me last year, and I stayed away from in every fantasy league this year until taking a chance with this trade. That guy has fallen off the face of the earth. Boagie, I was surprised you handed Mike Trout to Mordy, although he's been quiet so far. And Rog gifted Trevor Story to my son. Where's my gifts?

I think you're mistaken, Mark. I still have Trout. I wouldn't give up Trout without a significant return on a trade.
Panik has taken a big step back from when I thanked you for him. But I still have faith he'll get me a lot of points this season.

Mark wouldn't mention this himself, but overall he's been killing them in his various leagues. Mark mentioned that I gave his son a gift with Trevor Story, and especially in the ESPN format, I did. I think Trevor will fall off badly and that his strikeouts will hurt him, but I overreacted. Here's a piece of irony regarding my experience with Story. I picked up Segura as a free agent then minutes later cut him and replaced him with Story. Mark's son Bryan picked up Segura, and I wound up making the mistake and trading him Story for Segura. So I made a nice move in picking up Segura, quickly made an even better one by replacing him with Story -- then went back to my original position by "giving away" Story for Segura. Then to make matters worse, a guy on the other board Mark and I play for offered me Story for Corey Kluber! I countered with Kluber and Freddie Freeman for Joey Votto and Ian Kennedy. What do you guys think of that trade (if it happens)? In that other league I've cut my bench really short to build a starting staff of Scherzer, Kluber, Keuchel, Carrasco, Pineda, Joe Ross and Vincent Velazquez. In that 20-player-per-team league, I could probably fare well with the first four and could probably get by with any five of the seven. Meanwhile, I have steals but little power on offense. I just added Jay Bruce for outfield power, and I now have him, Carlos Gonzalez, Gregory Polanco, David Peralta and Ben Revere (injured) as my outfielders/utility man. I have Freeman, Matt Carpenter, Daniel Murphy, Eugenio Suarez and Jung Ho Kang (injured) around the infield. All but Freeman can play multiple infield positions. I'm OK at catcher with Stephen Vogt. I like to have a few offensive backups so I can "platoon" by using as many guys as I can who hit well against right-handers and are facing right-handers that day. Every player I have with the exception of Suarez hit right-handers better than southpaws. There are more right-handed starters than usual this season. We have runs, hits, RBI's, steals, walks and average as our categories, with one point awarded for winning each category. How would you guys play it in terms of player acquisition? Which guys would you trade and which would you flat-out lose? What type of player would you be looking for in return? I'm hoping you guys can give me some good ideas. (But don't tell Mark, since I'm competing with him!)

I think Story will come down to earth, although, he could still even out and be a solid shortstop for the rest of the year. Of course, he has Coors Field as a factor. I think trying to get value back for a "flash in the pan" player like Story was a decent idea, but I think you probably could have gotten more than Segura for him.

By the way, Mark, Stephen Vogt is now one of my least favorite players. He shits the bed for two weeks on my roster then kills it on yours. I guess I should have waited, but he kept putting up negatives and zeros.
