Per MLB Trade Rumors:
. The situation with Eddy Martinez is murky, and as of last Friday, Bobby Evans believed the Giants were still in the race.
. The Nori Aoki option is essentially a no-brainer, given that the net is only $4.8 million.
. The Giants will be pursuing top free agent pitchers such as David Price and Zack Greinke.
. The Giants' payroll will continue to rise by modest amounts.
. There is mutual interest between the Giants and Mike Leake, but the situation may not be resolved quickly.
. Chris Heston might continue in a starting capacity, but "it seems a good bet" the team will add at least two starting-capable pitchers.
. Larry Baer says that the Giants will look at the free agent pitching market "exhaustively" and will look for "the right fit" above all else.
. Evans says that Clayton Blackburn "turned a corner" this year and joins other near-ready rotation candidates.

We'll see.
After last year, I'm not ready to drink the GM's Koolaide just yet.
As Mark said, "actions speak louder than words."
So far, all we have are just 'words.'
When I 'see' the actions, then I'll get on board.
Until then...well last year's bad taste in my mouth is going to remain for a while.

Rog -- That is possible, but given the context of what was originally posted, it wouldn't seem the most likely interpretation. Look at these two bullet points:
. The Giants will be pursuing top free agent pitchers such as David Price and Zack Greinke.
. Larry Baer says that the Giants will look at the free agent pitching market "exhaustively" and will look for "the right fit" above all else.
When one puts those two points from MLB Trade Rumors together, one might conclude that the most likely description of "the right fit" might be players who would fit well in the clubhouse, which has been what the Giants have built their World Championship teams around.
Was your comment open-minded, Randy? It seems to come from a particular point of view and not be fully objective.

The problem with your "context" is one piece is from the author of the article and one is from Baer himself. My comment was solely based on what Baer himself said. Your search need not be very "exhaustive" when you are looking at the top tier guys. When you're going for the bargain basement, then you need lots of homework to be done...not to mention a good amount of luck

Your search need not be very "exhaustive" when you are looking at the top tier guys. Rog -- No, it really should be. You're looking for the best bang for the bucks you have to spend, and it might not be wise to overlook say an international player. In addition, there need to be a couple of hands full of fallback plans. Read more: sfgiantsmessageboard.proboards.com/thread/3083/mlb-trade-rumors#ixzz3oVYjxMKI
