For most of the year we fielded an entirely home grown infield, and for this old boy, THAT was slick!
I can't remember a team doing that since the Dodgers of Garvey, Cey, Russell, and Lopes.
The question I keep asking myself is this: Is a mostly grown outfield that far away? And is it even a possibility?
And I keep NOT being able to come up with an answer.
Williamson and Parker both have huge upsides.
Both run very well, not great, but very well, have strong arms, and big time power POTENTIAL at the plate.
But to date, ONLY Parker has shown that power, Mac has not.
Then again, that 402 foot opposite booming triple last night shows what he IS capable of.
Question on Mac is this; IS he really ready?
And to that question, I have to say... not yet, but maybe soon.
At times at the plate Parker reminds me of Jack Clark.
Potential big time boom in his bat.
Also big time strike out potential.
Would we be able to keep both next year?
I only see one possibility, and I'm not sure if it's worth the risk.
Move Pagan, and play Jarrett in CF.
Pagan, though not a great CF, is pretty good.
Parker? Who knows.
I think I like the upside of Mac better, but in front of him are:
Pence-Aini't goin' no where
Aoki-We MUST have a legit lead off guy
Blanco-PROVEN outstanding 4th outfielder
Parker
Maybe in a year or two it works; that we end up having a mostly home grown outfield.
Then again, since the Giants ARE sending Tomlinson to work in the OF, here's what COULD DEVELOP in say... 2 years.
LF-Parker/Williamson
CF-Tomlinson
RF-Pence
A long shot? Probably, but IF Tomlinson can make the conversion it ANSWERS the question of who hits 1 hole, and provides a ton of pop in the OF..
Remember, you heard it from me first.
