That should make Randy happy. The Giants supposedly told him they want him back but not at eight million and they will play the rookies the rest of the season. Byrd said he hasn't decided whether to file a grievance or not, but most think he wouldn't win, because once you're eliminated, playing rookies makes sense. He also said he hasn't decided if he'd be willing to come back here if the option didn't vest, but I'm guessing we won't be seeing him here next year.

my only beef with Byrd is 8 million is way too much to pay a 4th or 5th outfielder. The Giants played it wisely

Still think he would start for next year's team if Aoki doesn't return, but bringing both back would be silly, and Aoki makes less money. Williamson and Parker really add some pop as well, it will be interesting to see what the Giants do. Bringing Aoki back would virtually guarantee that both return to Sacramento. However, starting pitching is the primary focus here and the Giants have to decide how much is left for other positions.

If Byrd doesn't return, it would likely be Pence, Pagan, Aoki, Blanco and Parker in the outfield

I'm glad his option won't vest. As Mark said, PITCHING is the priority, and really, Parker, and to a lesser extent, Mac, both provide viable options.
But I'll address that in another thread.
Aoki is the one I don't think we can do without.
I've been saying for a long time, Pagan IS NOT a leadoff guy.
He simply isn't.
But is Jarrett REALLY a CF who could replace him?
Yeah, he's shown power, but frankly, I haven't seen enough of him in CF, or either corner OF spot to know for sure.
We keep Aoki, and I see that as a must because he is the ONLY legit 1 hole guy we have, and again, as Mark said, that tickets both Jarrett and Mac for Sacramento.
8 million for a 4th/5th outfielder?
Ummm, no thanks.

Rog: I was aware he had played cf... but my question remains the same; Is he REALLY a major league CF?
AT&T's a big, big outfield.
I didn't see anything from him that comforted me that he could cover it all.
to me, he, at times, looked shaky with fly balls.
I need to see much more of him, but I do NOT want Pagan out there again next year, that's for sure.
Why am I pretty sure I'll be disappointed?

My comment was to show that Jarrett likely ISN'T a center fielder. If he were, he would have played the position more.
I will say this. He has played it for over 100 games in the past, but there is likely a reason why he played it so little last season. Despite his amazing performance after being called up the second time, I'm still not a big fan of his, even at the corners.
I would love to be wrong. If he could cut down on his strikeouts significantly, that would be a big help. But in the minor leagues, he just hasn't made enough contact to be a good hitter at the major league level.
Again, it would be FANTASTIC if I were wrong. I would point it out with a big smile on my face.
To a lesser extent I'm concerned about Tomlinson too, but it is unlikely that he'll become more than a super sub, and his speed should acquit him well in that role. In Kelby's case, it isn't so much that he strikes out too much, but that he doesn't walk enough. Sort of a combination of both.
In order to hit .303, Kelby's BABIP was .382. That's higher than it was for him in the minors. If his BABIP had been a more normal .324, he would have hit .259. Over time, he'll likely strike out less, and the .324 BABIP should be sustainable. He might be more of a .270-.275 hitter. He stole 58 bases at two minor league levels a year ago, although he hasn't yet become efficient at the big league level.
Kelby could indeed be well-suited for a super sub role.

Thanks, Rog, I misunderstood.
Jarrett does NOT move like a CF.
And with the bat... I still worry about the John Bowker syndrome.
We'll see next year.
