Earlier this year I acquiesed, saying that Bochy had proven to me, like I'm someone who matters... that he's the best manager I've ever seen.
Starting today, I'm considering revoking my praise.
Why? you ask?
In the last weeks I've repeatidly criticized him for running his bullpen into the ground.
Today, he takes the bunt OFF with Trevor Brown at the plate, with 2 on, no out.
From where I sit, that's so far UP the stupid scale, I don't even know where to begin.
But what the heck, you'll disagree, but I'll try
1-Trevor is our 5th catcher of the year, and by all rights shouldn't be here. He's simply not a good hitter and is MASSIVELY inexperienced.
2-Since he's inexperienced and facing a guy with multiple years of major league experience, he's likely to be fooled and roll one over for a DP
3-Mujica is a sinkerballer
4-Mujica throws strikes; he owns an almost 6-1 K to BB ratio.
5-The chances of Trevor NOT hitting the ball on the ground were beyond slim; they were highly likely.
That he didn't is a moot point.
Bochy rolled the dice in what I consider a classic "Clint Hurdle" move, that had more down side than upside, and got lucky.
Had we LOST the game, THAT foolish, IMHO, ill advised and downright stupid decision would have been the reason why because Pagan hit what WOULD HAVE BEEN an Sac Fly.
Now I'm sure Rog'll argue..."we don't know that for sure."
Sit on it, as the Fonz would say, because whether we know for sure or not, I'll take my chances with runners on 2nd and 3rd with ONE FRICKIN out, as oppused to the HIGH probabilty that an INEXPERIENCED hitter would be fooled, and roll into a DP.
We won not because of leadership in this game, but INSPITE OF LEADERSHIP.
And this year... that has happened all too frequently.
This is NOT one of Bochy's finest seasons. Not by a LONG shot.
