As an old timer, I flat out LOVED what Bumgarner did to West; stared right at him, didn't blink, and wouldn't back down.
Joe Jack Ass was looking for trouble, and in the days in which I played, he would have found it by way of a high fast ball the catcher just "couldn't seem to catch."
Drill him right in the mask.
I loved Madison's intensity before, I love it even more now.
Don't agree?
Fine. I don't really care.
That's the way the game used to be played.
Oh, yeah. That was in the time when the umpires didn't think they were bigger than the game, or that THEY were the show.
Well done, Madison, well done!
You're a man after my own heart, and if Bob Gibson had been there, he would have given you a hug!

I love his toughness and I love his answer after the game pretending he didn't even know who the home plate umpire was in the game. That being said, drilling a defenseless umpire was NOT done back in the day and would be an incredibly ridiculous thing to do. If Mad Bum never wants another close pitch again from ANY umpire, and Buster Posey wants every pitch to be called a strike when he's hitting, then they'll do exactly what you're advocating. Do you really think a person deserves to be hit with a 95 mph fastball because he stared at you and because he's not good at his job? Cmon Boly, you're better than that.

Sorry, Mark, but it was. Believe me, it was.
I was there.
Don't know when you were a teen ager, but I'm 65... and in the 1950's and 1960's it WAS done.
But you miss the point of my post, Mark.
I'm not advocating hitting an umpire BECAUSE he missed some pitches. That's down right stupid.
I made the comment in reference to Jack Ass Joe BECAUSE he was looking for trouble, and he looks for trouble, and PURPOSELY tries to intimidate players EVERY GAME IN WHICH HE UMPIRES.
He is just one of a number of umpires who believe THEY are the game; that THEY should be the center of attention.
They are not the game, and they should NOT be the center of attention.
What Joe did was flat out wrong.
Wrong!
When I played, when you went looking for trouble... you found it.
A few names... Bob Gibson, Don Drysdale, Jim Bunning, and Nasty Jack Sanford, just to name 4.
Go back farther than that and you've got Early Wynn leading the pack.
I knew people weren't going to like what I wrote, but it IS something that took place back when umpires KNEW their place... in the background.

Florida Georgia Line is my favourite contry band. Headliners Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard are those guys that could make anyone sing along with them. It's the reason I like to visit their concerts. And - that's surprisingly beatiful - in 2019 they have CAN'T SAY IT AIN'T COUNTRY TOUR which covers all the US towns and cities. For concert dates list visit Florida Georgia Line Concerts 2019.
