I'm sorry folks, the simple reality is Romo CAN NOT get left handers out anymore. He needs to be demoted to righty specialist

Randy, I've been beating this horse all year.
Neither he NOR Casilla does an even passable jobs vs LHB.
Which is WHY I've been clamoring for a closer, or promoting Strickland to that spot, and frankly, he's still a thrower, not a pitcher.

I was quite surprised that Bruce didn't bring in Lopez to face the lefty. If he had paid more attention metrics, he would have. Let's put it this way: Lopez's even facing a right-handed hitter is clearly better than Sergio's facing a lefty. Sergio has improved considerably in the second half, but the situation was clearly set up for Lopez -- with Casilla available to pitch the 9th (although that didn't go well either).
The Giants would do better to make more late-inning use of their southpaws, particularly Lopez. I don't think they'll re-sign Affeldt, but adding a third southpaw reliever to go with Lopez and Osich would be a good move.
Romo and Casilla may regain their former prowess against lefty hitters, but as Boly accurately points out, they've been pretty bad against them this season. Lopez against righties has been better than either of them against lefties.
Both Casilla and particularly Romo have decent numbers against lefty hitters over their careers, but at this stage of their careers, they aren't very good.
Bochy is considered a master user of bullpens, but he has been slow to recognize this change. The numbers rarely lie, yet Bochy is ignoring them in this case. Just how obvious was it to bring in Lopez? To Bruce, apparently not so obvious. And maybe he knew something we aren't privy to.
But based on what WE know, the decision was close to a no-brainer.

For next season's bullpen, I'm thinking that Affeldt is gone. He hurts himself way too much
I see:
Casilla Strickland Osich Lopez Gearrin Petite Broadway... maybe Romo... maybe

I see Kontos as being right down Broadway. I'd rather see another lefty instead of Gearrin. If the Giants have six starters, one of them would be in the bullpen if healthy.
Still just that one outing from Petit in September, which seems baffling to me. He pitched two innings, so it wouldn't appear they're babying his arm.

I have forgotten about George too not all that long ago, but he's been a wonderful surprise for the Giants. Who would have believed his career ERA would be below 3.00?
I do remember when the Giants acquired him in a very minor deal right before the 2012 season. Anyone remember whom they traded for him?

Was it Stewie (Chris Stewart)?

Yes. They were both out of options, so they were traded for each other to avoid exposing them to waivers at the end of spring training. I recently read an article in the Post where they were talking about the Yankees lack of set up relievers and complaining about how they basically gave him away and he's in SF helping them win World Series.

You guys are both all over it. Stewart is quite good defensively and held the ship together in 2011 after Buster went down, but one could see that Kontos had potential. More than a K per inning in the minors and less than one walk every three innings.
