You have to take care of your own business first, and we did that in this series.
As to Murphy, the skipper of the Padres?
After watching him since he took over for Bud Black, my opinion is that he's clueless.
The only WORSE manager I've seen in the last 10 years is when Hurdle ran the Rockies.
Constantly getting out managed.
Which is what Murphy did today. Over managed himself into a corner with the bullpen.

In reflecting back over the 3 game series, what I SAW was a team in disarray; something I NEVER saw when Buddy Black was in charge.
That disarray I saw has NOTHING to do with the fact that our pitching shut them down. They all just seemed to be doing 'their on thing," and on a major league team, that just can't happen.
Buddy had them all pulling on the same end of the rope, and I'd be WILLING TO BET he didn't want to see all the changes the team made in the off season.
They lost a bunch of high prospects to bring in the likes of Upton and others.
They tried to buy a pennant, they failed miserably, and IMHO, the front office cost Buddy his job.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.

as I have said many times...any manager is in peril when a new GM is brought in in the middle of that manager's term. GM's want their guy to manage. That tends to work best...remember that the current Padre manager isn't the GM's guy but rather an interim guy. We shall see who his real guy is this offseason.

Heck, Randy I hope they keep this dufus!
I'm all for opponents who manage themselves into a corner!

I doubt any manager would have made a difference in that series, we just destroyed them. Interestingly, they went out the next day and won 10-3 over Arizona. Remember when posters thought San Diego had built such a powerhouse and left us in the dust?

I do not believe the words "powerhouse" or "left us in the dust" were ever used. The pitching San Diego had, and still has, inexplicably faltered for whatever reason. The Black firing was pretty lame and that certainly did not help them. It would have been smarter to keep him and then change in the offseason, if so desired.

I was the one to whom Mark was referring, Randy.
With the players they acquired in the off season, I thought they'd run away with the west, and that only ONE THING could prevent that; lack of chemistry.
I think their demise began with that lack of chemistry, and that lack of chemistry translated into poor performances by a bunch of guys, Cashner atop the list

I actually meant the both of you, but I'll also point out that both of you were more accurate in your assessment of the Giants than I was. I think they turned out to be better than you thought they would be, but certainly nowhere near as good as I thought they'd be. Both myself and Rog thought the Dodgers were better on paper, but I stuck to the logic that the better team on paper doesn't always win. It certainly did this time.

I had forgotten about Boly, although he's also a glass-half-empty guy. What this season has finally come down to isn't the Padres -- it's the injuries.
