It's getting very close to vacation time for our lads. The starting pitching, apart from Bum, is just not up to the task. The clutch hitting, apart from Byrd, has dried up. And now we have to face Greinke and Kershaw. Nope...not lookin good at all.

Like I said, Randy, we'll lose 2 of 3.
But what I WANTED TO POST, was that we're going to get swept.

Don't let us stop you from doing what you want to do, Boly. If you want to predict the Giants getting swept by the Dodgers, go for it.

You didn't stop me, boagie...I just didn't feel right doing it.
The injury to Pence was/is crushing, crushing regardless of how well Byrd has done.
His energy, his passion, those are so badly missed.
Throw in Panik and Posey's and Belt's power absence seal the deal in my mind.
then there's our below average starting pitching...
Well, I just don't know where to go from there.

The Giants had a chance to win last night but the umpire decided to ring up De Aza on a pitch a foot off the plate. Good for both Bochy and Peavy for letting the blind bat have an earful. We now have replay, why can't they get balls and strikes right? I don't mean we should review every pitch, but every sports website has instant Pitch Trax so we know MLB has the technology too.give the ump a headphone and have the computer call the pitch

I've been saying for over a year that eventually we will see the balls and strikes called by computer sensors, just like some of the networks use in their broadcasts. It's going to happen but I think it's going to take a similar situation to what happened last night but in the playoffs to convince owners to use the technology available.

Since I live in Ventura county... the game was blacked out to EVERYONE who isn't a member of greedy Time-Warner.
I didn't get a chance to see the play.
But I'm not surprised. I'm really not.
I've been bitching and moaning about umpires for years.
I don't like them, I don't trust them, especially on balls and strikes.
They aren't penalized in ANY WAY for gross screw ups, and they should be.
Players who repeatedly screw up on the field are benched.
not so umpires, and frankly, I resent that.

I think MLB should make public all the screw-ups by umpires, and not just those that get reviewed and overturned. We all know managers use their challenges judiciously, especially early in games. Bad umpires need to be called out and held to account for incompetence.

Randy, that's been my point for years. But they NEVER get called out.
Never!
Just from the games I've watched, my guess is that replays that are challenged get reversed almost 80+% of the time.
Replay shows umpires to be right probably 75+% of the time.. and for me, that's too much room for error.

I don't think a bad call against the Giants, who consistently get low TV ratings in the post season is going to change anything. MLB has to be orgasmic with LA and both NY teams heading to the playoffs.

Rog -- What makes us think that umpires aren't reviewed and disciplined? I know for a fact that they are reviewed on pretty close to a game-by-game basis. I personally know an umpire who was let go right before he earned his pension. I didn't pin him down the last time I saw him, but his answer led me to believe he received a settlement of some sort.
And why should umpires be benched, anyway? Have any of us ever been "benched" from our jobs? I don't know of a soul who has been temporarily "benched." Does anyone else here?
Finally, given that baseball (and other sports) are able to choose the best from a large pool, isn't it likely that sports officiating isn't as easy as we think? Think about the times we've made mistakes in our jobs, think about whether we make the decisions on our job in an instant, and tell me we don't realize that while umpiring LOOKS easy, it MUST be harder than it looks.
Yes, I've been an umpire. But look at the above objectively -- as I have -- and it's tough to argue with.

Rog -- They do. Virtually every game is televised.
Dood - I'm talking about MLB publicly announcing what umpires screwed up, on what plays and provide a running tally publicly available for fans to see
