I'm taking a 'wait and see' attitude, until after Monday's off day, to say for sure, but right now, it's my opinion that Buster is picking a very bad time to get cold.
Same with Duffy.
Both, IMHO, need a day off, or more.
They've BOTH been chasing crap outta the strike zone, have frequently been caught off balance, and had more swing throughs then I care to remember.
Especially Duffy.
We can't afford a slump by either, and with Susac back, it's a little easier to give Buster a day off than with Hacktor.
As for Duffy, same kind of thing. Really canNOT afford Ooops I popped it up again Adrianza in the line up.
But if Bochy doesn't get them some rest... they'll be fading fast in September.

However you feel about Adrianza's hitting, or lack thereof, he's a LOT more reliable on defense. I hold my breath every time a ball gets near Tomlinson's stone hands.

Man, Randy, you and I are looking at two different Tomlinsons.
I see a kid who's just getting better and better on defense.
Stone hands would be Emanual Burriss. Never saw a routine groundball he couldn't miss play.

Eogenio Velez would be easier on my ulcers than Tomlinson at 2nd base

I forgot about him.
I'll still take Kelby's defense, Randy.
Watch him closely. He's better than you're giving him credit for.

Eogenio Velez would be easier on my ulcers than Tomlinson at 2nd base Rog -- You could be in luck. Your ulcers may not be connected to your eyes! Maybe you were joking about Velez. Tomlinson indeed isn't a very good defender, but not to the extent that Velez was. Eugenio could pretty well muck it up at four different positions. I think he could have kicked it pretty well at the hot corner too if they had tried him there. Oh, and I liked Eugenio. He just wasn't very good. I disagree about Tomlinson.
The more I see of Tomlinson, the more I see soft hands.
I rate him average, at worst.

I can't get past seeing those balls get past him without getting a glove on them. Runs that should have been prevented scored because of it. That's just HS level incompetence.

btw, I loved Geno, but it had nothing to do with his fielding. The guy was hilarious...the cheesiest man in the big leagues

But since those two incidents, Randy, it hasn't happened again.
and I write that up to NOT understanding the speed of the Major League game.
Now, he does.

If the ball was beyond his outstretched glove, I might agree with you, Boly...but it looked to me like the ball went under the forearm...it wasn't that the game is too fast...it's that his brain is too slow

Again, I disagree, Randy.
Here's the best example I can give you, albeit on a much smaller level.
I was the JV Football head coach for many years.
We'd play our games first, the varsity would follow a couple of hours later.
The difference in the SPEED of their play was light years beyond what my BEST JV could do.
Near the end of every season, some of the JV's got called up.
It took a long, long time for those young receivers to simply get USED to the velocity with which the ball arrived from a varsity QB.
A long time!
So imagine the jump from AAA to the pros; an even greater jump.
I'm not making this up, as Kruk and Kuip talk about that adjustment in the speed of the game all the time.
Again, remember, those screw ups were EARLY in his call up.
Has he done it since then?
No.
Nothing even close.
Honestly, you're not giving the kid a fair shake.

I think it was just nerves. I still don't think he is necessarily a good fielder, but he's not bad.

I agree, boagie. He's not necessarily a good 2nd baseman, but he's not bad, Eugenio bad, either.
I say, average.
But in the field, he played WELL last night.
I'll excuse him for that one laser he missed.
THAT was one bitch of a play to make.

Maybe he was the best in the Eastern League but in the National League he has left much to be desired. He has gotten a bit better but he still lets too many balls get past him that, IMO, should not.

Rog -- Boly's pretty tough, and he's OK with Tomlinson's defense. If a guy is the best in his league, even in the minors, he's likely not awful. Plus, give the guy a chance to build a larger sample. Back in the beginning of 2013 IIRC, Brandon Crawford was having a heck of a time fielding. Yet somehow that worked out, didn't it? Tomlin isn't Crawford. But he's likely not horrible either. The Giants' announcers have taken not of how Tomlinson has improved his pivot under the tutelage of Ron Wotus. I personally don't think he's been very good thus far, but I'll be surprised if he doesn't turn out to be at least adequate. From my observations, Tomlinson has gotten better and better in the field each and every game.
However, IF I WERE HIM... I'd ask management to let me play in the outfield in the Arizona Fall league, and in the minors next year.
We have no place for him in the infield, and the kid can hit.

Rog -- The Giants did play Kelby in the outfield in the AFL, but apparently the results were poor, and the Giants have more or less given up on him as an outfielder. In his expected role as a utilityman, perhaps he can at least play the outfield in a pinch. If the Giants can get by with a dozen pitchers this season, they won't be so pinched on the bench.
