From my observations last night, Krukow was right; there was encouraging stuff from Hudson...
Great fastball movement, sharp, sharp slider.
But with aging arms, and bats for that matter, the consistency is what goes first, and THAT is what Hudson did not have last night.
4 walks? Seriously? 4 walks?
THAT is what alarmed me the most about his appearance last night, and though Faga was AWFUL behind the plate, Hudson was missing so badly and so often, it didn't really matter.
What stunned me was Petit coming in and struggling to find the plate, too.
THAT tells me there was a problem adjusting to the mound; as in, it wasn't kosher; as in the Padre pitchers are used to it, opponents are not; as in, the slope was different that other mounds.
We have 8 starters, not good, and for ME, that's 2, 2 many.
Hudson or Vogey might be good players to move in a smallish deal for bullpen help, or a pinch hitter.
And let's face it, we do NOT have a PH on the bench.
Then again, when you carry 55 pitchers on your staff, you need bench players who can play in the field.
Oh, thank you for asking WHY we're carrying 55 pitchers; Because 3 of them are 5 inning guys, and THAT'S not going to get it down.
Need to make a big move, Bobby, need to!

I can't include Susac because HE'S the only other catcher on the roster. Thus, he can NEVER be the top RH guy off the bench.
Blanco?
I'd rather see HIM in cF, than 1 legged Pagan.

Vogelsong is tradeable; because of his salary and health issues, Hudson isn't.

I would rather see Gregor in center than Angel, as well. And now that Angel is out, that is the case. But when Angel was in center and Gregor on the bench, the Giants had a good left-handed pinch hitter.
Susac off the bench is limited because he is the only backup when healthy, but with the game on the line very late in the game, he is the guy.
When Blanco is on the bench and Susac is healthy, down by a run or two in the 9th, the Giants have both a good lefty option and a good righty alternative.
