Trade for starting pitching? Ideas?
Outfield help? Whom do we like?
Bullpen help? Closer, set up man or simply depth?
Utility Infielder? Who might be available?
Looking for right-handed bat or left-handed bat off the bench?
Whom would we replace?
Whom would we be willing to trade?

Rumor mill already has us looking at Gerardo Parra, although buying Carlos Gomez while he's having a disappointing season would be nice. It's funny though, because even though the team is struggling, you can't really look at a position and say it's weak and they need to upgrade. It's a pretty deep team. Any upgrade to me would have to be a big one, someone who's clearly better than what they have. I'd like to see a reliever added, but it would have to be a bona fide closer type like Aroldis Chapman, not another seventh or eighth inning type. For all you posters who were sorry we missed out on James Shields (I was one of them) the Padres are already looking to unload him, in the first year of a four year deal! And where are those posters who told me how good the Padres would be? At least I was right about that one!

Let's trade Justin Maxwell for Bryce Harper. Then Pagan for Mike Trout. Outfield problem solved!
Then we could trade Peavy for Zack Greinke, and Hudson for Chris Sale. I'm really liking our rotation now!
Susac for Yadier Molina. Move Posey to first. Trade Belt to Detroit for Cabrera...(we could use a good pinch hitter.)
I think those would be good moves.
Oh I forgot some. Trade Petit to Seattle for Hernandez, and Osich for Chapman.

Mark makes a good point about the Giants' depth, and that will likely lead to mostly a small move or two. If the health of Pagan is an issue, another outfielder would be very nice. Parra is a good player who has been hot, but he has a left-handed bat that doesn't complement Aoki and Blanco well.
With seven starters available, I think the bullpen needs more shoring than the rotation. How did you like the inherited runners stats on Lopez (only 5 of 39 runners scored) and especially Kontos (a perfect none out of 25)?
The infield may not have the depth (Arias?) to withstand the loss of a starter.
As for what to trade, Crick is clearly available. With the development of Osich, the Giants might be willing to unload Affeldt if they find a taker. Adam Duvall would likely be available. Blackburn, Blach.
Ironic, isn't it, that the strong young minor league stable of arms has struggled and that the one pitcher to emerge was fringe prospect Chris Heston?

As I look more closely, I think the Giants are most lacking in infield depth. They are one injury away from being exposed there. Each of the other areas have at least one possible solution. The infield solutions are Arias and Adrianza, neither of which seems a likely winner. The Giants should be extremely thankful Matt Duffy has helped us to almost forget the failure of Casey McGehee, but Matt was a key part of their infield depth.

Carlos Gomez would be an excellent pickup. He has been a strong hitter in July and is a good enough outfielder to carry a 1.9 WAR so far this season. He has another full season before he can become a free agent, so the Giants would be acquiring him in the same time frame as they acquired Hunter Pence. His present contract is affordable ($8 million this season; $9 million next), but unless Pagan goes down and seems likely to stay there, acquiring Gomez seems unlikely. Anyone acquiring him would need to give up a lot.
One possible negative factor as well. Players who rely heavily on their legs tend not to age well, and Gomez will turn 30 in December.

Boagie- Arias is a solid backup, if any infielder goes down he'd be the starter. Not good, but not terrible either. If that happened Duvall or Frandsen would also be promoted. Duvall and Frandsen are hitting well right now. When considering depth you have to look deeper than the surface. Perhaps the weakness isn't in the depth, but perhaps more in the research you demonstrated.

Of all the guys mentioned here, Gomez and Parra... I'm not sure I want any of them.
Parra maybe.
Gomez? No frickin' way.
A head case.
A memememe guy.
A guy with HIS talent always swinging from the heels?
No thank you. I don't care how good he 'could' be.
IF I were making a deal, and I'll say it again, I want a starter FIRST and foremost. Who that might be, I don't know, but we need a big arm.
I'm not convinced Peavy will hold up.
2ndly, I'd look at a closer, and depending upon what the Reds were asking, Chapman would be at the top of my list, and I'd be willing to pay a LOT to get him.
3rdly, bullpen help. Not convinced we can with was Casilla or Romo closing, and Affeldt, again this year, is hurt.
4thly, another outfielder, preferably one who hits RH. I just saw the film of Maxwell going 4 for 4.... but that belies what he's done prior to that which was borderline awful. As in Juan Perez awful.
As for infield help... why? Whomever we get won't hardly play at all, and we've got 2 guys, who, barring crippling injury, can fill in for a day or 2.
