This is Timmy's 9th year in the big leagues.
He came in throwing 95 plus, and as we all saw last game, he was at 85.
That's more than one (1) mile per hour drop in his velocity per year!
And without injury... that isn't logical. And I would state, highly UNlikely.
I can't think of one other pitcher, not one, who's had THAT kind of a fall off in my 55+ years of being around the game.
So I asked myself the question: Why?
Only one answer came to mind; injury.
There MUST be something wrong in his shoulder or elbow to have had THAT dramatic a fall off in THAT short a time.
I thought back to Jim Bouton; high velocity when he first came in then, a sore arm, and it was gone for good.
And he isn't the only one.
Dick The Monster Radatz was a huge physical specimen. All of a sudden, the velocity was gone. Answer? Arm injury
Timmy isn't a big guy like Radatz, but other little guys have thrown hard, but not one of them had the drop off Tim has had.
Yes, he has complicated mechanics, but those complicated mechanics are the same ones he's ALWAYS had. He threw 95 + with them.
They, I contend, are responsible for his lack of consistency, NOT his drop in velocity.
IF...IF I was a betting man, which I'm not, I WOULD SAY, rotor cuff issue... a rotor cuff issue neither he, nor anyone else is aware of.
A tear? A partial tear? maybe.
Losing 10 MPH in 8+ years is NOT normal, and it's not logical
And if it's a rotor cuff problem, rest won't fix it.
I like Tim. I really do, and I'm praying they find a fixable problem in his shoulder.
I KNOW what it's like (on a much, much smaller stage), to go out there and NOT perform the way you KNOW you can.
I hurt for Timmy because of that, and I HOPE they find an issue, take care of it, and that he returns to at least 3/4 of what he once was.
