Randy -- Giants effectively GIVE a first round pick (Brown) away to Cardinals getting nothing in return.
Rog -- They didn't simply EFFECTIVELY give away Brown and got nothing in return, they DID so. But that is the nature of the game. The Giants needed a spot on the 40-man roster for Justin Maxwell, so they had to let go one of the 40 players on the roster. That rule is designed so players such as Brown who are slow-developing might get a chance elsewhere.
Gary was just reassigned to the Cardinals' minor leagues, where he is expected to start in center field in AAA for the third straight season.
At this point, this is no big deal and actually almost expected. Brown can make the Giants pay. That's up to him and the Cardinals.
Randy -- Giants DFA Adrianza and likely will get nothing back again for him.
Rog -- Four possible outcomes. He is trade; he is claimed on waivers; he clears waivers and goes to Fresno; he clears waivers and signs with another minor league team. At this point, not a big deal.
Randy -- Peavy continues to get rocked, throwing 86 mph BP fastballs.
Rog -- His first pitch of his last game was clocked at 84 mph, although he did pretty much throw 86 and higher from there. He's going through a dead arm period, so we'll see. Most consider him a good signing for 2/$24, but arm problems could throw that equation into the negative.
Randy -- Offense still looking inept.
Rog -- Not so far. 11 runs in two games.
Randy -- Padres get Kimbrall.
Rog -- What a great acquisition for the Padres. Right now the Giants' biggest need may be for a starting pitcher. We and they will know a lot more when we see how long Matt Cain is out.
The only things here that are worth much mention are the arm problems of Cain and Peavy, both of which have the potential to be big deals.
As an aside, anyone note the absence of Yasmany Tomas, the Cuban outfielder/third baseman the Giants were criticized for not signing? He has been sent down to the minors. That's certainly not an indication the signing is a failure, but it might show why the Giants' scouting reports on Tomas didn't lead them to outbid the Diamondbacks for him.
Let's just say he won't be making them regret that decision this particular series.
Aside from the pitching problems, should any of these things concern us much?
