Hunter Pence got his left forearm broken today by an inside pitch. So of our three main power threats, one is injured, one wants to be a bunter and the third got zero extra base hits last postseason. Woo friggin hoo!

Bad news about Hunter, but it's better that it happens now rather than during the season. Does this force Bochy to bat Pagan 3rd?

Why not? Nobody has any pop anymore...might as well just pick the lineup out of a hat

I think it's time to give up not only on this season but the entire future of the franchise.

your call on that...Im just talking about changing some of the FO personnel (those in charge of FA negotiation strategy), drafting/development practices and overall payroll philosophy.

Randy -- Im just talking about changing some of the FO personnel (those in charge of FA negotiation strategy), drafting/development practices and overall payroll philosophy. Rog -- Whom would you replace, and with whom would you replace them? What drafting/development practices and overall payroll philosophy would you recommend? It appears as if Pagan will bat third, as Boagie mentioned. Without Hunter, the core (3 through 5 spots) of the order isn't too strong. Pagan isn't a hitter who should bat in any of those slots. He doesn't have enough power, and his on-base skills are merely adequate at best.
In those roles, Posey's power is little more than adequate, and Belt may not hit for a high average, although his power and on-base skills are better. Pagan doesn't really fit into that part of the order, but is forced there with Hunter out.
When Hunter returns, Angel should probably bat sixth.

Pagan isn't the prototypical 3rd place hitter, but neither is Belt. The only person who statistically belongs in the 3rd spot is Posey.
Belt had a bad obp last season, in previous seasons Belt's obp has been better, but it was largely due to him not knowing how to jump on pitches when having a hitter's count, so I believe that obp is a bit misleading.
Right now, I'd hit Pagan or Panik #3. They both had a better average and obp than Belt last season. Why in god's name would you consider hitting a player with a better obp 6th while hitting a player with more raw power 3rd? That seems a tad backwards to me.

Boagie -- Pagan isn't the prototypical 3rd place hitter, but neither is Belt. Rog -- Nor was Bonds. It must be a left-handed hitting thing. Boagie -- The only person who statistically belongs in the 3rd spot is Posey. Rog -- But Boly doesn't want him clogging up the bases. Boagie -- Belt had a bad obp last season, in previous seasons Belt's obp has been better, but it was largely due to him not knowing how to jump on pitches when having a hitter's count, so I believe that obp is a bit misleading. Rog -- You are correct. It used to mean getting on base. Now it means getting on base pitifully. Boagie -- Right now, I'd hit Pagan or Panik #3. They both had a better average and obp than Belt last season. Rog -- And if we're going by last season only, I agree with you. Belt should be hitting cleanup, where he won't be getting on base to clog up the bases for the good hitters. If he hits it, he'll be able to trot around the bases. Boagie -- Why in god's name would you consider hitting a player with a better obp 6th while hitting a player with more raw power 3rd? That seems a tad backwards to me. Rog -- We're not talking about a lineup at the police station? Read more: sfgiantsmessageboard.proboards.com/thread/2743/more-good-news#ixzz3Tt8yUxIT

Randy -- your call on that
Rog -- I'll call long distance. Don't have to pay by the minute anymore. Now it's anytime minutes. Like a bad batting average, they can be carried over month to month.
